Wow Terry, what a nice experience this must be for you. Helping this young lad finding the truth and hopefully gaining his freedom... You said he needed a mentor, but I think he's found himself the best mentor he could get!

My day was kind of a waste of time also, but in a good way. Slept through the morning and got up at noon. Then had 'breakfast' with my hubby (everyday the same ritual: fruit in yogurt with a hand of mixed nuts and a bit of honey... love that!).
After that we went to a seaside resort where in the summertime literaly millions of people visit, but at the moment it's nearly a ghost town (compared to the summer). So good for us locals to be sure there's place on our favorite terrace for a cappuccino (or two, or three). Hubby and I sat there for about two hours, in the sun (nearly 25 degrees Celsius/ 77 degrees Fahrenheit, which is very nice for this time of year).
Then I had to go to a make-up store to buy a present for my daughter, who's having her birthday next week. After that we went for something to eat at Burger King (not our usual place for a bite, but they ran out of tuna sandwiches in the previous place, and our favorite restaurant is closed for their yearly vacation after being open 7 days a week for the last seven months). Burger King happened to be the first place we ran into where they had food (or something that looks like it ).
With our bellies filled again we went to a computer store to buy some things that hubby needed, after that to the supermarket for cat food and then we drove back home and on the go we enjoyed the sunset in the Andalusian mountains (we saw snow too, far away on the Sierra Nevada! The first snow this year!).
The rest of the evening we had work to do, which wasn't bad at all after the lovely afternoon we had had.
So, that was my day yesterday in sunny Spain.

Lets list everything that has pagan origins!!
by song19 ini have a feeling i am going to have to explain to my jw folks why i have decided to allow my children to participate in holidays at school.
theyll probably be wondering too why i will get together with our non jw family for the holidays.. .
we know jws avoid holidays because of their pagan origins.

Bill Cosby - too much smoke for no fire?
by Simon init seems like the list of people who are accusing him of rape and sexual assault is growing every day.
i'm skeptical of single accusations but the number of people and the similar stories seem overwhelming now.. it's not a conviction but to the court of public opinion ... guilty?.

When you look up my real name and my husband's name on the internet in the Netherlands, you'll find that we're 'frauds', 'ripping off people', and using several tricks to get our hands to money... If you don't know us and have never spoken to us nor met us, you could believe it is true. It even seems to come from several different people... But people that really know us and know our stories, know and feel that none of what is on the internet about us is true. It's rumours, made up stories, by ONE envious and vindictive man trying to harm us, but using other people to spread his words.
I'm just telling this, to make a point:
How many people here know mr. Cosby in person? Have met him, spoken to him? I suppose none of us.
In my opinion it's up to the police and the courts to find out what the truth is with all these allegations around mr. Cosby. Until then he's innocent until proven guilty!

just wanted to introduce myself
by TheMark ini've been a lurker for quite some time and enjoy the forum.
i've reached a point in life where i don't argue ideologies anymore so i don't have much to say.
i've been out for decades and believe i've been mostly de-cultabilized (if that's even a word).. my family is still in and i haven't had contact with them in years.

I Waited Until My Wedding Night To Lose My Virginity And I Wish I Hadn't...
by Divergent ini found this article interesting & just wanted to share.
after going through my teenage years trying to be the perfect jw, i realized that trying to live up to the standards imposed on me have been for worse & not for better.
i was feeling miserable, repressed, unfulfilled, with a great lack of self confidence & self esteem.

I recognize a lot in the article. After my weddingday it took me six weeks to realize that I'd married the wrong guy. He was cute, he was sort of sweet (and also a real JW, so he was 'in charge' so to speak, the boss, the 'head'... yuk!) and from day one I really didn't like to have sex with him. I managed to stay with him for nearly fifteen years, but then I couldn't take it anymore. The promise of a 'blessed marriage' when you keep your virginity appeared to be a lie. But like the person in the article, it took me years to learn to enjoy sex and feel okay about it. And even now I still have times that I have to fight the old thoughts and feelings of disgust and dislike, just because I used to be so programmed to think that sex is dirty, sinful and has to be about the man's needs instead of mine...

Children calling jw adults uncle and auntie, when did that start?
by awakening ini cant figure out when the auntie and uncle thing started or why.
it sure is a peadophiles dream to have a kid they dont know call them uncle!

To me as a child it wasn't strange at all. Later in life my ex-husband and I used to call an old sister 'auntie', she was the dearest friend of my (then) inlaws and a friend of their family for decades, and my children changed that to 'granny'. Every since I've always referred to her as 'my grandmother', even though she wasn't really related to us, it just felt that way. And she was happy with it, she never had children of her own. We were the only family she had. She's passed away over 14 years ago, but still to this day she was closer to my heart than any of my blood related grandparents.
My new husband has never been a JW, but he has numerous stories of neighbours he'd call 'uncle' and 'auntie', so I guess it's also a cultural thing in the Netherlands to give those 'titles' to people who aren't related but still somehow close to the family.

I'm a regular visitor, usually every day a couple of times, and scan the latest topics fairly quick and read the ones that catch my attention. I mostly read, but every once in a while I also post things about my experiences as a JW, hoping that someone might find it helpful. I like to read the stories of others, it's sometimes like looking in the mirror from a different angle...
