A lot of the old songs had beautiful, naturally and easily "singable" melodies. The new book purely sucks. I can't imagine what their thinking was in producing it. My JW mother detests it. The songs are not naturally singable. The melodies are not pleasing to the ear.

Jesus 1000 years and Satan's 1000 years in the abyss
by berrygerry inthe thread about satan in the abyss for 1000 years prompts a question.. jesus will rule for 1000 years.. jesus began ruling in 1914, which means his 1000 year reign will end in 2914.. satan will be abyssed for 1000 years.. if the end comes in 2020, satan will be abyssed in 2020, and then released in 3020.. what happens between 2914 and 3020?.
honest question..

I think Splash & Apognophos have presented JW doctrine correctly. Here is my understanding of JW doctrine:
The Kingdom was instituted in heaven in 1914. At that time, Christ began ruling in the midst of his enemies. The millenial reign (1000 yrs) begins after Armageddon when all Christ's enemies will have been subdued (human govt destroyed, Satan abyssed, etc.) and the earth will be under complete control of the Kingdom.
Another way to think of it: Christ's rule since 1914 has been during the last days of this system (the old, evil system). During that time, the heavens are cleansed, but there are still problems on earth. Christ's millenial rule (1000 yrs) begins at the end of the last days period when the Kingdom takes complete control of the earth and the new system (new world) arrives.
CHRIST'S TOTAL RULE = rule during last days (in midst of enemies) + 1000yr (millenial) rule in new world (when all enemies will have been either destroyed or abyssed)
Captain Obvious: Then why was the 100 (so far) year reign in between the two events not foretold? According to JW lore
JWs have long acknowledged the difference between Christ's ruling in the last days and his ruling during the millenium. The time limit they placed on his rule during the last days has to do with the "generation" teaching.

Circuit Overseer cutbacks?
by Saltheart Foamfollower init was announced at our meeting tonight that our co (who is actually a pretty good sort) and his wife have been reassigned as regular pioneers.
they are both relatively young (50s) and have been used extensively by the society recently.
as far as i know there are no personal issues.

I know of a siutation within the last year in which a young brother (35-ish) went to a cong during the CO's visit as a CO-in-training. The brother handled all the CO duties (talks, etc.) while the CO observed. He evidently had already been appointed as a CO.
Why would the org be appointing such men when they have plenty of DOs who could fill the CO positions and they are laying off some COs as indicated by the opening post? Is it because he's younger and is not as much of a health risk?

the org like Dr Evil - out of touch
by Magnum ini keep getting an image of dr. evil in my head whenever i think of jws and their website.
the more i find out about them and the org promoting it, the more i think of dr. evil when he came out of his 30-year freeze; he was way behind times.
after being thawed out, he demanded one million dollars from the un like that was a lot of money, and he was laughed at because he was so out of touch.

Phizzy: Who is the WT's Minime then ?
Phizzy, when I first read your question, the COs popped into my head, but after a minute, I realized that Mini-Me is what the org is going to be in a few years when the declines start.
Dis-Member: I'd grown, developed, matured, deepened, had more scars, moved on in many areas.. but that the org had not. Neither had it's members. In fact the entire org and it's contents seemed to have regressed. Not only had the so called deep, spiritual food been watered down to a nutrition-less transparent nothingness
So, according to you, the org's sitiation is worse than Dr. Evil's; he was merely stagnant, but the org has actually regressed. I agree. That's so true about the so-called deep spiritual food's being watered down. They're actually, it seems to me, trying to hide all that older, deeper-seeming stuff.
Ocean1111: Its all just part of a grander distraction from reality.
I think so. They're trying to distract fromt the fact they've been wrong (and are wrong) doctrinally, their prophecies have failed, they're becoming more irrelevant every day, their numbers aren't good, the preaching work is ineffective, etc.

The more I find out about them and the org promoting it, the more I think of Dr. Evil when he came out of his 30-year freeze; he was way behind times. After being thawed out, he demanded “one MILLION dollars” from the UN – like that was a lot of money, and he was laughed at because he was so out of touch. He also said he planned to use a “laser” to blast a hole in the ozone layer as if nobody had heard of a “laser” and holes in the ozone were something new.
It’s 2014 and JWs are going around saying “we have a [pause] WEB [pause] SITE” like that’s supposed to impress somebody; they’re so out of touch. Judging from the way they talk and the way the org is promoting the website, you’d think they invented the internet.
They brag about the forward-moving celestial chariot. Well, either they’re not keeping up with it or it’s slow-moving. They’re way behind on this website stuff. It’s ridiculous the way they’re running around all giddy about it plastering the logo everywhere. They’re just so naïve and gullible.

What's The Basic Vibe of Jehovah's Witnesses These Days?
by minimus indo you think they are zealous?.
happy, joyful?.
pessimistic, depressed?.

The answer to your question that first popped into my head is "clueless". I know that's not really a "vibe", but it's just the best way I can describe JWs now. They're dumb and getting dumber.
I agree with XBEHERE about the 1995 "generation" change; it took the wind out of my sails.
I agree with Theredeemer about the GB's hyping this year up so people won't be able to sit back and think "hey, it's been 100 years and nothing's happened." The GB has them all giddy about their website, the international conventions, etc. What's going to be the mood, vibe, mindset, etc. next year at this time when all the hype of this year has died down and they realize the website is not going to bring new recruits and maybe their numbers stagnate or start to decline? Will be interesting to see.
To really try to answer your question about the "vibe", I'd have to say that I only really care about the vibe of the smarter, more knowledgeable ones. Their feelings and opinions are the only ones that matter to me. The only two I can think of both have issues with the org. One is an elder; the other was one until not long ago. I think they are both sitting back watching to see what's going to happen.

There were always things that didn't make sense to me, too, but I was told that Jah would answer my questions. It's been 35 years and not only did he not answer them, but they've grown in number and intensity. There is more that doesn't make sense now than there was when I started.
How do you feel about the Bible? Do you still believe it's true or are you undecided? What about belief in a creator?

The "Preaching" Work As A Dead Parrot
by metatron inhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/dead_parrot_sketch.
inspired by a car salesman.
as with john cleese's apoplectic performance, there is never any admission that the "preaching" work, door to door in particular, is dead and has been for some time.

I think a lot of the doctine is a dead parrot, too, but they won't admit that, either - just like the shopkeeper and the car salesman wouldn't admit any fault. JWs aren't ever wrong; they just get "new light".
Speaking of the carts/displays... I just saw my first yesterday. Was in a big city working. Two sisters sitting at a table completely ignored... sign: "What Does the Bible Really Teach?"... one talking on her phone. It looked so cultish.
