makes me sick, because of the number of meetings per week, this will seriously jeopardize a childs education. Clueless old codgers who never had a kid find it easy to say such a thing. I can see teachers pulling their hair out trying to explain to the parents of these poor children that they cannot and should not excuse their children from their school work.

The Society is gonna let you off your homework kids!
by nicolaou infrom the current (uk) edition of 'our kingdom ministry'.
take a close look at paragraph 4. am i the only one who can see the old pattern of the 1980's re-emerging?
i had thought that the watchtower had begun to take a more reasonable approach to the secular education of it's members children yet here they are again in 2004 willing to jeopardise the education these young people receive for the sake of indoctrination and control.. .

Hi! I don't know the person you are looking for but I lived in Mendota for a while when I was a kid. Good luck on your search.

I ruined Thanksgiving
by ApagaLaLuz inthat's right folks.
had thanksgiving at my house this year with about 25 people.
i decided to run over tile in the kitchen wearing slipper (because that's what intelligent people do of course) .

How rude to ruin thanksgiving!!!! If you only had the decency to fall and not get hurt, everyone could have a good laugh. But no! You had to hurt yourself. At the very least you could have been running to save a child from a speeding train and been hurt for a noble cause. But no!
Get better, and I really am sorry you are hurting.

this website is having an impact
by dothemath inhello.........this is a first for me- i've been reading some of your messages for some time now, and i must say you guys study your watchtower far better than i ever did.
i'm still a part of the congregation (and an elder), but i have to say i agree with many of your criticisms of the organization.
we've become just like the pharisees that jesus condemned............at our last assembly, the do and co warned against apostate material over and over again..........so i certainly think you're having a tremendous impact on their actions.

Are you feeling alright? You look pale, I think you are coming down with something. Probably a stomach flu. What? are you running to the bathroom again? Hope you are feeling better soon.

Do you think the governing body sincerely believe what they teach?
by AJN ini haven't had a chance to read crisis of conscience yet, it's a 2 month wait here unfortunately for delivery and i feel it will probably answer some of my questions regarding the gb but it occurs to me - i wonder if they *really* believe what they teach, if they *really* believe it's the truth or are they really manipulating money makers operating a dysfunctional mlm scheme that ruins people's lives.
or perhaps somewhere in the middle lol.. oh yeah, and if anyone knows how the 'new light' is supposedly delivered i'd love to hear about it.. what do you think?
if anyone has read coc and has any quotes that might be useful please post :)

This is something I have often wondered about. Do they realized that they are messing with peoples lives? Do they realize they have made every life decision for so many? Do they really understand the power they wield? Do they get that they just are not qualified and have no right to run rough shod over thousands and thousands of lives?
It frightens me to think of them tinkering with the well being of their followers. The scare, admonish, punish and destroy with impunity. Then they stamp god's name on it and go have a beer or whatever they drink.

Where were you at 33 years of age?
by DanTheMan ini've managed to survive 33 years (and a couple of weeks).
what a long strange trip it's been.. in spite of some tell-tale signs of aging (wrinkles around eyes, gray hair, mystified and sometimes terrified by the current youth culture) in some ways i still feel like a little kid who doesn't know anything.
what have you learned since then?

Wow, it looks like 33 was a momentous age for a lot of us. Me? I was separated and in the process of a divorce from my ex elder soon to be ex husband. Four kids age 6 to 11. Scared to death and clueless. But I must say at 33 and with four kids I had a body to die for. Now the kids are grown, the bod's gone south and I have lost the fear and the clueless, well sometimes I still work on that!!
There are a lot of things I would do differently, some not. All in all an interesting journey. The best thing is at 33 I began my life as a free person. Free from the JW's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My mommy is dying.... :(
by outnfree ini'm off to new york this morning.
i'm fortunate that my oldest daughter will drive with me, missing class to support her mom and possibly to say a final farewell to her grandma.. my mother has has two strokes this year, and, after the first one in may, told me that she felt like she was dying from the inside out.
she had another stroke at the end of august, and was eventually put in a nursing home.

Hey, appreciate the wisdom, advice and support. I will pm some of you and check out alanon. This is scary stuff and I was afraid to hear how bad it is. But I can't stick my head in the sand anymore, it is time for me to get real and honest information even if it hurts, which it does. Thanks to all.

Yeru,
I'm sorry your sick and tired, I can identify and sometimes I switch to tired and sick just to break the monotony. You are a teacher. College? I am substitute teaching for two school districts, K-12. I am not called everyday so I fill in working with my hubby the tile contractor. Back breaking work, which might explain why my back hurts.
Any advice for substitute teachers? Like how to get the little darlings to sit down and be quiet?
