i'm going to be a man of few words here.
christianity, in it's truest, fundamentalist form, promotes an unhealthy and non-productive victim mentality.
the christian feels helpless on his own -- condemned by sin and absolutely unworthy.

we went out to eat with my daughter and husband tonight and on the way back i counted the churches on the 16 mile streach of road home.
there were 18 churches that were on this one road.
can you imagine the money that goes to pay the preachers and buy the buildings?

Social problems are not a priority for local government. Big, splashy churches are a priority, makes the city 'look good'.

i now have 2 more to do to get mcad status (ms certified application developer) and 4 more for mcsd (ms certified soution developer).

i have no interest in getting involved in that post, but this is an interesting question.
supporters of the us feel that there country alone is on the moral high ground, and incapable of such an act.
The US may be the current 'ruling' power of the world, and is constantly attacked. Two hundred years ago, Britain was that power. The only people who know what really happened in WWII, Vietnam, or any other conflict are those who were there. Although debate is a good thing, can we ever answer these questions? Not IMHO. Let's all stop bashing each other over something we can never solve.
As much as I have known, and loved, individuals who are soldiers, sailors and airforce, IMO, the military is a tool of the power brokers of the world, who continue playing their games to see who can get the most profit.

as an artist i try to create emotional responses through abstruct paintings.
sometimes an element of pain or hurt i felt is represented on canvas and the pain or hurt is then gone from inside me forever, but remains for ever on the canvas and i hope is felt and understood by the viewer.. i wish i could do the same with the written word so that i could really make myself understood to the reader.
the same was true when i started painting, what i painted was oftern poor but because i was always encouraged by people who never mocked my terrible efforts but concentrated on the positives i developed emotionally as well as an artist.. i think the same is true of many on this forum they have been hurt by the w.t.

It is helpful to read others' experiences. I have laughed, cried at many of them. And to agree with Big Tex, your writing's just fine.
I'd love to see your work. I love to make abstract paintings, and to see others'. Do you ever work with mixed media? Isn't it amazing how each person sees different things in your paintings? I have one friend who looks at each new piece, and then tells me a story about it. He is a musician, and very creative. I always enjoy showing him my stuff.

shortly after my dad died, mom starts her "bible study" with the nice ladies from the hall.
fastforward a couple of years...she's now a baptised jw...and a totally different person.

there is no logic to this. And not having been a JW, it's got to be even harder for you to understand her blind trust. Anger & sadness sounds about right.
I just tell myself, 'my parents are adults, they have the right to make their own choices'. You're not alone in these feelings. I'm sorry you have to go through this.

for those who are newly out, and especially for those raised in it, they have a huge task in dealing with all the effects of the abuse.
they have little or no "self" to build on from a pre-existing self.
many need to start from scratch and discover things about themselves and learn about how to make good decisions versus being told what to do or asking an elder.

BigTex - that's a great point. I have been learning to parent myself after all these years. One of the things I have gotten from therapy is that we choose people to learn 'lessons' from. Kinda what you said, only from a different angle. "all relationships are learning experiences"
