This is from 2011.
When the story was first published in the UK (Guardian or Independent?), we did a bit of a writing campaign here on the forum. A bunch of us spent a day or so writing in to the comments section of the newspaper...... it was wild! Folks from here, commenting, with JWS denying and scrambling to cover up the heinous nature of disfellowshipping.
I checked, and the comments are no longer available for reading, which is really too bad.I have to say that GB and Australia are far ahead of Canada, and the US, in their investigations and condemnation of the Jehovah's Witnesses cult.

Being shunned only increases my certainty that the WBT$ is a cult
by punkofnice inwell, i don't wanna rant too much but sometimes things cut you don't they.. a family member had a get together for the family, jw and non jw and of course i wasn't invited being da'd.. i understand why they couldn't invite me but it just made me think.
in normal society this wouldn't happen.
i'd have been there.. the shunning is so unnatural and damaging.

This story is from 2011.
At the time, we had a big push on the forum ........ and quite a few of us wrote in to the comments section of the original newspaper that had the story (was it The Guardian or the Independent? It was in England). We spent an intense 48 hours or so, answering people's questions regarding JWS and shunning, and refuting the JWS who commented on the story.
The comments are no longer there to be read, but wow, what an anti-Witness we gave! :D "Worldly" people ARE interested in the JWS - the average person is shocked, when the reality of the WTS policies is exposed in the mainstream media.
I'd like to see more group efforts like this - exJWs offering constructive criticisms on JW youtube vids or newspaper articles, and refuting JW claims in a logical fashion.xx

I made a comment, but it's *disappeared*.
Looking at an account that is left open, or has no password, is not hacking. Knowing your relative/friend's password and using it to read their private correspondence is not hacking.
Hacking is 'breaking in' to another person's account by using your technological know-how. I doubt this happens a lot in JW world..
If you leave your diary on the counter, and someone opens it and reads it, that is one thing. But if your diary is in a locked box, and they pick the lock so that they can read it, that is another. And that's the difference between taking advantage of someone who is not protecting their privacy by proper use of passwords, and hacking their accountIt's wrong (of course!), but it's not illegal to read someone's email if they left it open, or don't have it password-protected. That is completely different from hacking, which I assume would be illegal in many jurisdictions.

Flash Mob at the Kingdom Hall
by wisdomfrombelow inwouldn't it be interesting if dozens of people showed up at a kingdom hall as part of a flash mob, not being disorderly, but to make a statement.
maybe all raising their hands on a particular question and giving a "real comment" instead of restating the paragraph.
or they could all leave if when one of the paragraphs says "internet bad...ignorance good".

There's a park next door to their District Convention (are they calling it something different now?) site in my city.
Can't get a meet-up started in this city, though, let alone a flash mob.Perhaps one could be done at a convention in a locale that has more folks, like New England or Texas?
Just a thought ...

Children of murdered Charleston minister have "already forgiven" their Mother's killer.
by nicolaou ini'm not judging these poor young people, if this is how they are coping with the trauma of losing their mum i can only wish them well.
i have to admit though that my jaw dropped when i first saw this interview, i couldn't square their reaction with what i understand as 'normal' human grief.. is this religiously motivated form of forgiveness a positive thing?
should i acknowledge this as something to be said in favour of religion?.

"I feel a lot, a lot of love. I'm a little bitter, but it's just ... I'm overwhelmed with love."
That is what the daughter said, and it sums up my feelings on this. It's not healthy. They are good preacher's kids (I mean that), and putting on a brave face, believing what their mother taught. But, the true feelings of rage and pain are being suppressed, and if not dealt with, these feelings will turn into a LOT of bitter with time.xx

Ah, very interesting, Van, thanks~! Darn, I should have taken those old books my dad didn't want, while we were still speaking. (he has a very old collection - 4th generation, that's me).
