Anybody hear about the new confidential letter sent to bodies of elders in
by researcher incanada re the freedom of information act.
when someone moves to a new congregation a letter of introduction is sent.
usually the elders use this opportunity to list all the negative things about the person or family so they have a black cloud above them for years to come in their new hall.

A couple of questions about summer conventions (spinoff)
by razorMind inbeing as i haven't been to a convention in years, i have a couple of questions:
do they still come out with that list of special-jw-rate hotels at the service meeting for the summer conventions?
also, i remember times when the list would be practically useless by the time my parents got home from that service meeting and started trying to make reservations.

When my husband and I were special pioneers and working two or three assemblies each summer ...we knew of the comp rooms.They generally were given to WT reps or CO DO, the arrangement is this; for every so many rooms that are booked they receive comp rooms. So if it is a 200 room establishment then they might get as many as four rooms free for the time of the assembly. We received those rooms if we worked more than one convention....Summer convention not 2 day assembly...this was a help for us as we were special pioneers and not allowed to work a job. I have to say that one time we were at a convention working the second or third one I can't remember...but, they told us it was a comp room and then they wanted us to donate the amount of the room to the WT society and of course we did although we had not the funds or the budget to do. Of course we were never allowed to tell anyone about those things. This is one of those things that is swept under the rug, hoping that no one will ever ask about it or understand how it works. Not that it is wrong it is all business and business is not wrong. If we can make a good deal then we should but, I feel that it should all be above board and that everyone should have full knowledge about what is actually happening and then they can decide to be a part of it or not. Truth is truth ...lies can be lies of omission...see the WT for further clarification of what a lie of omission is....Maggie

Well Panda...I think you have it right for the most part...I was just in a cave in Texas that also had alot of information about their birthing room and how much they relied on the Shaman's ...It is interesting because it is a cave where they gave birth (the women that is), so it was about the belief of spirits in the child and those surrounding it. Just thought you would like to know and Panda if you ever want to go to some of those caves just call me and I'll be there...As far as what the WT has to say, they accept what is fact and try to make the rest of the facts fit into their picture of what is and should be...as always if it doesn't fit well just chew it up and put the spin on it to make it work...that works for me! Were Most Of The Elders "On The Ball" In Your Congregation?

my experience was that there was probably 2 or 3 "sharp ones".

I have to agree with Core...it seems that the really good and sincere Elders spent so much of their time cleaning up and doing the right thing for the rest of the elders that would make a mess that they burn out. It is sad but, these pther men are not really qualified to have the power that they have over the lives of others. I know of all too many elders that were concerned with doing the right thing and that caused them to loose their eldership as the rest of the elders did not or do not want to have to uphold the standards that Christ set before them. Ever seen an elder that might have problems with gluttony or perhaps something else but, it is never dealt with...we all have our imperfections but, are they not an example to us? Few and far between are the fine elders that have been able to keep heart and last in the organization. Maggie

Pagel's latest "Beyond Belief"
by Panda inelaine pagel's recent work beyond belief, the secret gospel of thomas gives some excellent examples of questioning what we have been taught and looking into all of the interesting historically "hidden" books of christianity.
i especially appreciated her explanations of why so many interesting writings never made it into the sanctioned bible.. what i got from this book was that power is/was the road to acceptance.
the leaders of the church who were accepted by the emperor (read that as constantine) got to manipulate the holy writings into their own form.

by Maggie ini have read alot on this site for a while and just have been absorbing it as i make my way.. one thing i noticed was alot said about abuse of children... i experienced the reverse...false stories told..believed by elders because of hidden agenda and 20+ years as special pioneers ..etc.
as of no count and belief in a new publisher destroyed our lives and children's lives.
the horror never stops ...some of our family is disassociated...some disfellowshipped...some inactive...some active..some on a fence...mostly because of one or two elders and the misapplication of their power and lack of love to our family.

Wow ...I can't believe all the responses..it takes time to settle into the idea that there are others out there that know the heart of one who has gone through the test of leaving first in your heart and the out in the open. I clicked on chat and there were some really tender people there ...such as Joy and OCW...and blue...thank you all for listening to me ...maybe I can be there for someone else when I make it through the "grieving" as they told me...thank you again

I experienced the reverse...false stories told..believed by elders because of hidden agenda and 20+ years as special pioneers ..etc. etc. as of no count and belief in a new publisher destroyed our lives and children's lives. The horror never stops ...some of our family is disassociated...some disfellowshipped...some inactive...some active..some on a fence...mostly because of one or two elders and the misapplication of their power and lack of love to our family. With our record of service the WTS never giving us the benefit of even thank you.... What a mess.....
I have often wondered at the saying "where do you go away too" but, now I wonder more and more how can I go back too.....
I don't have the hate that I see some have on this site..not the gross put downs of the ones that are still active...I also do not feel that I have left Jehovah and the love of the Christ...I just wish there was someplace that I could enjoy the truth of christian freedom to worship my God without all the other stuff that goes on.
First time I have expressed this to anyone besides my husband but, maybe there is an answer or maybe I already have it just not wanting to see it....

Why cults hide their old publications.
by refiners fire inhere is a classic example of why it is that cultic religions find it necessary to conceal their old publications from the scrutiny of the membership.
this example is from 7th day adventism, but i assure all readers it is a classic and well worth the reading.
still, it is necessary to lay out a little background to the speech i will be quoting from before proceeding.

I don't understand why the WT would change something..that would be found out...what could be the purpose when this would discredit them in the eyes of their fellow believers?
I also don't understand why the WT is so into contributions and getting them..when all is for the preaching of the GN and not going into pockets of the leaders....Or am I wrong in that assumption?
