HELP ME...

i am posting this so that other jw will help me to figure out what i need to do.

my husband was born and raised as a jehovahs witness.

when we got married he never metioned it to me.

Ok... very well. First of all.. I believe in God, (but not in the sense that he is some sort of Judge) My original question on Knowing God... was to see if YOU could tell me what YOU believe deep down inside.. what you think of when you think of god. (not the teachings of the organization)

the time card thing: I was refering in general to counting... they count the money, they count the hours, they count their "accomplishments".... all the things that Jesus was getting at when he went into those temples and condemned them for.

As for the rest, you seem to recognize all the beauty that God that has given us.... How could such a diverse creator, with such a broad spectrum of Ideas.... be so limited? So judgemental? Why are his people so judgemental?

place of worship/attire: The christ almost always taught in the wilderness, in the streets.... the quote "do not forsake the gathering together"... has been turned into..."you must attend three meetings a week, and if you miss too many, we will come see why"

anyway, we could "fill up the net" trying to debate.... I just wanted to see if you could discuss GOD and only what YOU feel, without relying on what they have pounded into you. I see that like so many, you cannot. (this is not a dig at you) Most who are members of the org... cannot tell you what they feel about god. As far as the literature... I know it is part of you, but it isnt part of the "sunsets and life enjoyment" that you speak of. "telling about gods kingdom"..... But they go so much farther than that... they dont just tell you.... they tell you, then they use that as an excuse.... how does "hear the good news of the kingdom" translate to "you have been disfellowshipped for smoking"? Where is the relevance? By your own admission, this wasnt such 'good news'

Life enjoyment? Does it sound like the victims on this site enjoyed life under these conditions? Abused, manipulated, controlled.

But I definitely enjoyed hearing your side of it. I would love be more one on one with you. It is hard in this forum to really have a heart to heart. Just know that when you go back to them, and you are rejected, you will always be welcome here. On those days when your concience is telling you deep down, that their treatment of people is unfair, unjustified, unbiblical.... you think of GOD.... you think of that infinite creator that designed so many different things, different people, different wants and desires. Not the "god" in the books and magazines, that writes all the rules and regulations, and protocols, and procedures..... Just God...

JOHNSON CITY - The average person in Johnson City probably doesn't realize that the Jehovah's Witness convention, to be held at Freedom Hall next month, has an economic impact of more than $10 million.

"They just know that there's a lot more traffic those weekends," said Brenda Whitson, executive director of the Johnson City Convention and Visitor's Bureau. "There's more folks out in the mall and the restaurants. They probably don't think about the economic impact in having that number of people in town.

"It's a busy two weekends. Don't try and find a hotel room, it won't happen."

The 2003 Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses District Convention will be held at Freedom Hall on July 11-13 and 18-20.

Whitson said the city anticipates that between 9,000 and 10,000 delegates from Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, Kentucky and Georgia will attend the convention.

"It is a great economic boon for our area for two weekends in a row," Whitson said. "In Johnson City alone they will bring in more than 4,300 room nights for both combined weekends. Room nights in the region, as far as Kingsport and Bristol are concerned, will be around 1,200 to 1,500 room nights."

Whitson said the goal of the Convention and Visitor's Bureau is to work with the Jehovah's Witnesses as effectively as it can in order to maintain a long-term relationship.

To help accommodate the Jehovah's Witnesses, Johnson City provides no charge on parking at Freedom Hall, alternate routes to the facility and maps and visitor's guides of the region, Whitson said.

"We have created an experience for them here that they feel very comfortable with. It's a great partnership," Whitson said. "They saw that we were willing to go the extra mile for this convention, and each year we look at ways to improve the service."

Craig Clark, news service representative for the July 18-20 convention, agreed that Johnson City is very cooperative with the Jehovah's Witnesses.

"The city is very receptive, and we appreciate their cooperation very much," Clark said.

The Johnson City convention is one of 200 being held in 60 cities throughout the United States. The delegates will convene in unison with an estimated 11 million of their associates on six continents.

The theme of the convention is "Give God Glory."

Clark said many people look forward all year long to the annual convention.

"It's the highlight of the year and many use their vacation time to come to the convention," Clark said. "It's a time for people to build themselves spiritually."

Northern Girl... Good morning.. I havent forgotten you. In fact I thought about this alot. Of course God is beyond the comprehension of man. Forever is something we really can't grasp. But if you will bare with me... I will ask you this now.... If we are not to "know" God? Then why religion at all?

If "we are made in the image of God" and his "best example was the christ"... then did not the christ teach that "religion" and all of it's trappings were not of God? Jesus did not teach shunning. Did he not GO TO those who were considered sinners? Show them compassion? "... he who is without sin, cast the first stone" ? Did he not go into the temples and overturn the tables filled with Gold coins? (with this question I am refering to the "counting of money".. you know, those time cards you fill out, the statistics you are given at the meetings)

Hears the prayers of those who follow his ways? Please tell me then how some of these practices the JW's are so famous for, are "his way".

Did you ever notice, that when explaining any particular doctrine, the witnesses rarely use scripture in order. I mean, the scripture hopping, reading one sentence from one page, flip three hundred pages and read another sentence? You know .... I can make the bible say anything if I do that.

True no one truly knows everything about god. But do you think he would limit this knowlege to a select group of people? A group of people that can follow a list of rules? Do you think some of these rules are REALLY important to God? Does god insist we wear clothes that SOCIETY deems appropriate? Ever try to go to the hall barefoot and bluejeans? Do you think God really cares? And what would be the response if you did? ... How about "come back when you are dressed more appropriately"

Again, I am not attacking you. I am not saying "explain yourself"... I just want you to think about it a little more deeply. Leave all the books and magazines and tracts at the door, come in, sit down.... and let us just talk about GOD.

And THAT is what this board can do.... give us a chance to examine what each other feels and believes, without the fear of being disfellowshipped or reproached.... If you will go back through these posts.. way back... You will see that people here have had knock down, drag out arguments in here... different opinions... but a couple hundred pages later, they may be having a really nice conversation... like now.. on this thread.... Nothing is absolute.... see where I am going with this? Would the elders allow you to ask prodding questions? give your opinion? Try it and see your response.

I think this technology scares me a little... the idea of being able to be tracked, anywhere. HOWEVER in this case one cannot deny that SOMETHING has to be done.

I say when you catch one of these pervs, hook his gonads up to a truck battery with a remote control.

so that bzzzz every time he bzzzz thinks about his pecker bzzzzzz he gets a nasty little bzzzzz shock.

Has anyone ever met a JW Prophet? (slave class)

during my... adventure, with these people, i have raised a question with them.

who writes the articles?

During my... adventure, with these people, I have raised a question with them. Who writes the articles? makes the rules? ACTUALLY hears the voice of God? Their reply is always the same... This annointed "Slave Class" that usually reside at Bethel. These are the "prophets" who set the (changing) dates. Make the (new) rules, and any changes in the structure or teachings of the lot.

Has anyone here actually ever met one of these people? Do they actually claim to "hear" the voice of God? Are they named specifically on some kind of register with the Organization? or Are they a protected "secret" group of people? If they are named, where can this be obtained? Such questions seem to be forbidden, as I have been asked not to "show a suspicious nature", I should simply accept that they exist, and are truly annointed.

A faithful Jw in the audience? Have you ever met one of these slave class? Did he give you his name? Did he tell you he hears God? Does he live on the "farm"?

any info would be of help.

Can God exist outside of time

Boy! you couldnt just ask a simple question, right? LOL....

Anyway, I suppose provided time is ACTUALLY linear, then the "future" could be predicted. (not that I know of course, but this is another way of seeing it.)

There is a belief that time is not linear... that is, it is not a sequence. That what you call "past" cannot exist. That what you call "future" cannot exist. That there is ONLY "now". Think of it this way to simplify it: Tommorrow actually never comes. Yesterday cannot exist. It is always TODAY, right this very second. and this one... and this one... and so on.

an elder did tell me once that God, is not omnipitent. That "he" cannot see the future. so I suppose that is their general belief.

i'm a celebrity get me out a here...(yeah, get em outta here fer crying).. oprah winfrey/ricki lake...omgaawd, oprah thinks she's "a god" or something and so does her audience.. neighbors/eastenders/corra st/ all of em come to think of it.. what grates your teeth?

or do you enjoy any of these ones?.

All these American versions of kewl british shows. What not to wear(pathetic attempt at copying the attitude), Changing rooms/trading spaces, while you were out, .... and yes.. Sanford and Son, was a Brit com.

Favorite shows : SOO Graham Norton! BBCamerica (but I AM straight) This guy is Hillarious! I laugh from the second he walks out. (whoever said the British were stuffy?... of course.. HE is Irish)

Oz(showtime?).... good drama
