Little Matthew at the Kingdom Hall
by pennycandy inwhen my oldest child was about three we were in a kingdom hall with quite a few kids.
my son was frequently brought to the back room, not for a spanking, but to stretch his legs and take a break.
later diagnosed with adhd, he could not sit quietly if his life depended on it.

Why can't they do something to make it enjoyable for young ones
Potleg, I remember expressing this, and the reply was "what do you mean, we have the my book of bible stories!"

Great Apostate Fun !!
by Apostanator ini was wondering what kind of effect it would have if a letter of dis-association was written and signed with the name of a local jw that is known at the hall.
stating reasons such as the un thing or the child molestation issue.
imagine mailing it to the society with the return adress of that publisher.

Other Types of Abuse...
by RichieRich inanyone who regularly reads this site is well aware of the sexual abuse scandals amongst jw congregations worldwide.
(for those not familiar, visit www.silentlambs.org).
not to make light of those who were sexually abused, but i think there is an epedimic of other types of abuse in the org.. how many here have been, or know of, someone who was "spanked" regularly and excessively?

labelled "Rod of Discipline"
I remembe my parents having a wooden board, (think all the witnesses copied each other on this one) and named it "the board of education, to get to the seat of the problem".

WOMEN 'R SUPERIOR TO MEN
by DannyHaszard inwomen are biologically superior to men.how so: .
(1) women have a longer life expectancy than men, there are more widows than widowers.
this is due in part to(a) the protective effects of estrogen which helps protect against hardening of the arteries.. .

Re: WOMEN 'R SUPERIOR TO MEN
ahh, so true! But then again, men are like coffee, the best ones are rich, warm, and can keep you up all night long.

There were some good things about the organisation...
by Do I Stand Alone? ini have read a number of experiences in this discussion forum and quite frankly, i would have to agree that many, if not all, were pretty terrible experiences if not all together traumatic.
i know that my personal 9-11 tragedy resulted in finding out that the watchtower society was involved with the united nations.
that pretty much said it all as far as my "career" in the organisation was concerned.

You have computer skills and savvy
Is this something new? They now teach computer skills with the dubs. Guess I missed out on that one. Public Speaking skills, maybe but as a female, not exactly.. Remember, we did not get to stand up at the podium and speak to the group. We sat down at a table, and acted out a little skit, all prepared from a manuscript, ( I never, EVER could do the outline thing). -

Taking on others personalities
by kls indo you ever have a friend or close relative that has taken on someones personality ?
this is someone that you knew to act and think a certain way and then they meet someone and they have changed into the other person such as likes and dislikes and their way of reasoning .. .
do you know what i mean ,kinda like the person you knew has become someone that you don't really know.

yes, I have seen this happen, even with someone very close to me. Right down to even starting to use the same terminology, and pronouncing things differently. (like I guess in the midwest, they pronounce wash, with an r, warsh) and we most certainly dont do that here in the west.

JW wedding music songs! I promise not to sing at you!
by Gill ini was having a reminising sort of day today and thinking about our wedding 22 years ago and the songs we picked for the ceremony.. we had first, 'love's excelling way'.. god is love, and therefore bids us, walk in love's excelling way,.
letting love of god and neighbour prompt all things we do and say.. for though we have faith and knowledge, gifts of tongues and prophecy,.
yet if love itself were lacking, we would simply nothing be.. .

I remember the weddings I went to as a dub, always used the "Shulamite Maiden" song.

Witness or not, there are other effective ways to discipline children. We take my sons privldeges away, like his video games, etc. My children have never been disciplined with a belt, and they never will be. Cuz, yea we got it with the belt, although I was the goody two shoes in the family, and didnt get it as frequently as the others, but we all got it.
