What is a good martial art for girls to learn? Any recommendations?
by True North indoes anyone have have any experience with martial arts?
my daughter is interested in trying to learn one and i think it would be a good idea both for physical training and for self defense.
i know there are a lot of different styles to choose from and i'm not sure which would be the best for her.

Damn shera...thanks for telling me that after I join..in my class there are several guys and girls who have been going two to three times a week for 7 to 12 years with no major complaints...maybe it's that Nova Scotia Tae Kwon Do...ya know...where you drink two shots of Captain Morgan first.

True North
I'm taking Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido right now and love it..
They're are as many women in the classes as guys and they are just as effective in every aspect because it's not about strength..in fact I have sat and watched several classes of tiny Tigers which is kids 4-6 yrs old, they're enthusiam is fantastic.
I also talked to several parents who said how much they're kids love it and how the discipline and respect learned in it have made them better kids.
So far there has not been one single thing done in the class which I was lead to believe would happen by being raised a dub, no prayers, no trances, no levitating....and so on and so on.
From talking to Paul who is taking Aikido there seems to be alot of use of weapons taught in his class, don't know if that's the norm.
Tae Kwon Do is more about kicking and striking while Hapkido is joint locks and submission holds. Grueling workouts with alot of emphasis on proper warm ups and stretching for greater flexibility and less injuries.
She'll love it, it seems to be a good parent child thing as well..

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
by simplesally inmen donned womens shoes to support the end of violence against women.
apparently, every 2 minutes a rape occurs somewhere in the world.. did any of you ever hear of date rape coasters??
the coasters are cards that can test whether a date rape drug has been mixed into a drink, merely by applying a sample of the alcohol on the card.

Wow
So sorry ladies to hear all the terrible ordeals you have suffered...for a man it is pretty much inconceivable to think of being date raped or abducted for sex...we jokingly say sure we'd love it..but inreality probably not..
I fear everyday for my girl..she's not even 4 yet and I hear of girls her age being abducted and molested, even killed. Truthfully it's one of the reasons I decided to start taking martial arts, I hope to get her involved in it barring JW intervention.
In spite of this, I refuse to wear high heels unless I can wearing a garter and stocking to match.
Big hugs for (((((Maya, Sheila))))))) and ofcourse six who broke his heel...littletoe you selfish bastard, you always ruin guys night out.

Everything
I have chnaged Jobs twice and finally settled into the present Job which is as stable as they come for almost 9 years now
1995 and the generation change was the beginning of the end JW wise for me.
It took me several more years for enough things to build up before I finally did the research which confirmed my fears about the Org (My fear...that all they are is a visible earthly Organization...confirmed)
The birth of the most beautiful and bright girl to ever enter my life was the final straw, how can you teach someone you love lies?
Now I stand on the brink, brave new world with new adventures and friends but losing almost all that I have accumulated in the way of friends and family during my lifetime thus far....except my girl....my love for her cannot be broken.
This last year has been the most climatic in my life and I see big changes on the horizon.
Thanks to all on the forum for sharing this past year with me, the support has kept me afloat.
Craig.... I know we only met the once but I really appreciated your kind words, won't Kate get jealous?
Craig.........Oh, and I also met the love of my life.

Maverick is spot on....infact almost all procedural changes are undertaken for legal reasons, not new scriptural understanding as many would have you believe. If you dig the reasons become apparent.
