Did anyone catch this quote?
"Over seven and a half million Witnesses of Jehovah really have found him and they truly love him."
Why are they no longer touting "nearly 8 million" witnesses? I found this strange, but maybe it's nothing.

in the last year or so, many bible passages that i used to strongly and confidently apply to non-jws, began to seem to apply to jws.
this change in my thinking was shocking and disturbing.
i can best describe the feeling by comparing it to the feeling i got in 1981 when i watched the movie dead and buried starring james farentino.. in that movie there are murders committed in a small town by dead people reanimated by a doctor doing experiments.
MAtgnew 23:15- Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you travel around on sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves
do you feel the counseling demands placed on elders are fair and scriptural?.
i live in an economically depressed industial city.
my dad is an elder in a lower income black congregation.
My dad has an engineering degree and an MBA but that doesn't prepare him to deal with mental illness. Ironically I have a relative who is a minister at his church who is getting his masters degree in counseling. Of course the wtbts would never want their elders to get degrees in counseling etc. they would tell them that the bible is enough.
Also TMS mentioned elders dealing with people who have addictions. Elders cannot handle this. They just tell people. "If you really wanted to stop, you would."

I live in an economically depressed industial city. My dad is an elder in a lower income black congregation. There is a high rate of mental illness in the area. He is retired now, but he spends a tremendous amount of time counseling depressed and unstable individuals. Many people do not have the money to seek professional help. Why does the organization expect untrained elders to do a job that is difficult even for professionals? It's unfair and is upsetting me. My father should be enjoying retirement, not running around dealing with everyone's problems. These people need Professional therapy. I believe a quarter of the women at my hall are mentally and emotionally unstable. many have low self esteem from growing up in broken homes, and the guilt and demands placed upon them exacerbate the situation. My dad holds a masters degree and is the only elder with a college education. I think it's ridiculous that these men are called upon to deal with those who have mental illness.
Your thoughts? Did you feel overwhelmed and unqualified?

Remains of people's temple cult members still unclaimed. Very sad tragedy. Long before I was born. Those deluded people. It can happen to anyone. At least we woke up!
it was announced at our meeting tonight that our co (who is actually a pretty good sort) and his wife have been reassigned as regular pioneers.
they are both relatively young (50s) and have been used extensively by the society recently.
as far as i know there are no personal issues.
Just regular pioneers? Not special? That's strange.
over the past several months, we've seen a flood of youtube video's showing not just the advertising of the cities for the international conventions, but also of the "entertainment" happening at various convention halls and congregations.
examples would be the line-dancing, worldly music, dancing outside the conventions, etc.
many of us who grew up in this ultra-strict, thou-shalt-not cult are left with our jaws on the floor at this seemingly "worldly" display of showy, excessive, mainstream behaviour.. progress is happening.
No these are definitely pushed. theyve been secret previously. I've been to such an event in a foreign country with a governing body helper in attendance. A CO was an emcee of the event. These events are just new to people here, but the event i attended was a year ago and was of much higher quality. Professional dancing and musicians at an assembly hall.
for those that care about such things..... .
attendance right around 60k everyday.
.6 percent.
That's right in line with the other conventions. Jehovah speeding up the work. Lol.
hi guys!
is anyone sensing an increasingly sanctimonious arrogance in j-dubs recently?
im asking this as i am finding that with the two major news stories in the last few weeks (ie.
Just wait a few weeks until the usual gaza peace treaty and everyone forgets it.
last month, my best friend of four years and boyfriend of six months came home from a jehovah's witness convention.
he'd been acting strangely the entire weekend and i knew something was wrong.
i initiated a discussion and he said, "essentially our relationship is wrong and i'm not supposed to be with you.
Sorry tiff, this guy is a fraud. I'll PM you because I have a similar story. were you the first girl he slept with? If so, it's definitely over. He won't confess to the elders either. For him it's all about appearances. His world will crumble if he acknowledges you as his girlfriend. It took me a long time and many failed girlfriends to realize how messed up many JWs are in relationships. Of course there are even more messed up people from all walks of life, but JWs have unique issues. They will choose the cult over you. The cult makes their life easy, especially if they still believe it. your ex is still a believer. He just wants to have sex, grow a beard, party and not go to meetings. Ask him to read crisis of conscience. If he declines because he believes it's apostate material, then he is still a believer and a huge phony.
