  Interesting changes for the 2014 service meeting...

  if you look at the first page of the kingdom ministry for december (link here), read the talk entitled: "the theocratic ministry school for 2014".

  I'm not surprised if they will make changes, it's expected that they will be coming out with new material and update old stuff. With all this "new light" and revisions, some of the information available is now invalid. So I agree that there will be new bookupcoming big soon. Probably all paperback since they're cutting down on costs. Might be thinner too judging from all the recent books.

  looks like they are still sticking to 1914. they do talk about the war and tie it in with the 1914 interpretation.. watchtower public:.

  Home schooled witness kids

  sorry if i'm stepping on any toes here, but i haven't seen anything positive about home-schooling...at all.

  the notion is that parents are taking advantage of the formative years to inculcate more worthwhile values while protecting their kids from worldly influences.

  they end up with lazy, socially inept, illiterate duds who haven't a clue.

  One of the reasons they put their kids into homeschooling is to go out in service. I've heard of a few homeschooled kids who do that since now they have more time available. Another reason (as said before) is fear of "worldy" students and influences. I was out in service one time and a sister who was going to put her kid into homeschool and telling me how it was better because then her child wouldn't be pressured and face bad influences. She asked me if I would ever take homeschooling. I told her no since going to school allows you to see other people and interact. Then I said how not everyone was bad, it all really depends who you hang out with. And it really does since even kids in the Kingdom Hall can be bad influences sometimes.

  Watchtower schools--why the consolidation?

  first there was the ministerial training school ( mts), then changed to the school for single brothers.

  most recently the school for christian couples (replacing gilead).

  all of a sudden news comes out the all these schools are consolidated under one umbrella: the evangelizing school --open to single brothers, single sisters, married couples all the way up to 65 years of age.. i wonder as to the motive behind all these changes this year..

  When they announced this, the single sisters in the congregation were sure very enthusiastic and happy about this. Even the speaker made a joking comment about that. So what SFPW and Daniel1555 said about playing matchmaking could be true, but most likely its either from lack of applicants or/and simplifying and downsizing of resources (they have been doing that a lot lately).

  The faith on action DVD is not so great for learning about the history of JWs. It's leaves out a lot of information. No mention of how they believed Christ came in 1874, how Barbour (an adventist) greatly influenced Russel, not much said about 1925, is biased in showing rutherford take the lead during the schism, no mention of 1975, other dates and previous teachings and doctrines. Rather it makes it seem like the "light gradually grew brighter" when really there were areas where it did and didn't. That DVD is the sugar coated history and barely scratches the surface. The Proclaimers book contains more information but it's really thick and not done in chronological order so it's rather confusing. plus I doubt many will take the time to actually read it from it's size. That thing is huge! But it does omit some information and minimizes certain events such as 1975. (They gave it a paragratwo or two, talking about it).

  Not many Jw's will actually take the time to bother knowing their history or read anything beyond what the Society says. Basically the only get the point of view they are feeding you (only the good). If you look at outside sources, it shows a bigger picture. One way I found about what truly happened in their history is through other websites such as Wikipedia. Although people say Wikipedia isn't very reliable, you can still look up the sources to confirm that facts. Theres a lot of documentation out there especially in older publications. Jwfacts does a great job at documenting changing doctrines and how it has developed to the ones known today. Before doing that, I hardly knew anything except what was told.

  Its interesting to see how they mention past discussions and books such as "millions now living will never die" and only mention parts that pertain to current doctrine (thus making it seem like that was the most important thing). In reality that booklet says much more such as the resurection of the princes in 1925 and how the old world "legally ended" in 1914 and was passing away while the new order was on it's way in. That's why it was said "millions now living will never die"

  I attend a foreign language congregation and many of the JWs there are still learning the language so their speaking skills aren't well developed. Because of this, many of them were concerned about how the will give a study. A t one meeting, it was said that all the person studying really needs is the study book and that will basically guide them through what they need to know. Not much need of an input from the Jw conducting the study.

  How Long Will ARMAGEDDON Last?

  Actually, according to the recent watchtower of July 15, 2013, the great tribulation is suppose to take place first which will them climax into Armageddon. The great tribulation was moved to a future event where the UN will attack all "false religions" but God will intervene and make that short so the "true religion" can remain amd be saved. There will be a period of time after the start of the tribulation and then Armageddon starts. That's what they say so now they're waiting for the great tribulation to start.

  Despite the fact that they discourage higher education, from what I've noticed, different speakers give their input on it. Some are more liberal than others. The more liberal ones (or speakers with family members and friends that have gone to to college) are ok with a short time in college (or preferably technical school) but they tell you to put theocratic stuff first. The more conservative ones are tougher and highly discrouage it. They tell you not to go. That's what happened at one assembly. One guy was saying not to go and the next guy that came up was saying it was ok. It was odd. They also gave us an experience of a sister that went to college for 4 years while being a pioneer and became a lawyer. She used her "higher education" to work for the watchtower. I didn't know you could become a lawyer in 4 Years. I found that strange. So it's ok to get a good education- as long you use it to work for them
