haha, good story, I can already picture this being made into a short "horror" film online like YouTube. I found it ironic that the smurf is called Apollyon since JWs believe he's Jesus.

Watching Amish Shunned on PBS...very deja vu if you are/were a JW!
by tenyearsafter inthis is a very interesting documentary...the similarities are so close, you could substitute jw for amish!
anyone else watching this?.

I'm watching it now. It's very interesting, there are many parallels you can make with the JWs; call for obedience, staying in place, women are to be submissive, rules of how to live life, shunning, seperation/fear of the outside world etc. But they're more extreme in their way of life and rules.

I attended that Assmbley building as a kid, right up until they sold it. I didn't know that Michael Jackson helped fund that place.

I saw most of the episode, it was entertaining. Prince sounded really monotone with his acting, like he was bored. Didn't know he had such a high voice when singing haha. The elders might counsel him on some points or give him a hard time just like they did with Michael Jackson. My dad was wondering if he was wearing a wig since he has his hair very long by JW standards

Disrupting literature carts
by perfect1 ini am ready for a little guerilla warfare (no one gets hurt, of course).
but these literature carts in the city need to go.
everytime i walk by its all i can do to keep from knocking the thing over.. any ideas on how to destroy their little stash of paper.. so far my best idea is water, pouring water all over it.
-
A.proclaimer
It isn't such a good idea to do that. They'll threaten to call the police and they have permits that allow them to be there. Then they'll try to move you away from the carts. That's the procedure incase someone comes and interupts. Plus like others here have said, it reinforces the whole persecution idea and there are other people around looking. Try another more subtle method.

I ride the subway often so I see people who ask for spare change. I only give them money if I feel like it and depending if they look like they really need it. I use to feel bad when I didn't give anything but after sometime I noticed it's usually the same ol'beggars. Like one lady brings holds a card box sign asking for money while holding a child in her arms and pregnant. Most people I see dont give her money, I doubt she's in such a desperate state to be like that from the looks of her. My guess is that it's just a way to get people to give her money.
Oddly enough, there was one guy who asked for 40 cents at the stop I take the subway at. I did give him spare change the first time. A few days later I see him at the stop I get off at and he's asking for the same amount: 40 cents. I saw him do that another day. Another time I was feeling generous enough to give a guy some change. It wasn't a lot and he complains to me as I walk away. I'm just thinking to myself: I was nice enough to stop and give you spare change and you're complaining to me??

We Pray For The Governing Body...
by jw07 inat the meetings i've noticed over the past 2 years or so brothers asking for 'special blessings' for the governing body.
it was everyonce in a while at first.
now it is almost at every single meeting!

Interestingly, the brochure "Who Are Doing Jehovah's Will Today?" number 20 where the page is titled " How Does The Governing Body Function", the last sentence in the final paragraph says: " The Governing Body appreciates our prayers in it's behalf".

Sunday School etc....
by quellycatface ini have never understood why the jw's did'nt have a sunday school or some kind of educational thing going for children.
it seems pretty selfish and antiquated.. i remember growing up, i was terrified of "satan" and "the demons".
not forgetting the "jehovah is watching you" crapola.. i think it's wrong letting young kids listen to fairly adult themed talks, items etc....it's got to affect them mentally.. any thoughts?.

I think they did have a class for teens and children around the 1940s or sometime back then. Maybe someone knows more about this. I could be wrong. Since then, they stick to the "one size fits all" idea. I remember hearing brothers from the platform saying that we have the necessary "spiritual food" at the meetings for all ages. They discourage parents from having their little kids nap, have toys or color during the meetings. They pretty much expect them to sit down quietly and listen the whole time and then go on to critizise other Christian religions for providing child care services and seperate schools.
It would be nice to provide something for children. All I remember about meetings as a child was daydreaming and not paying attention the majority of times. And maybe occasionally given the task or writing down bible texts and tally the number of times the name Jehovah and Jesus came up at the meetings.

Wait a second, aren't toddlers at that age barely learning how to speaking? Kid won't even know what's going on, they just do what the parents tell them to. I'm sure Anilpa finds door knocking to be more of a game than to really understand what it's really all about. I'm sure most JWs will find this to be a cute, encouraging story with a: "if a 17 month old can do it, so can I" thought and taking their kids along with them.

What are the feelings/thoughts within 24-48 hours of exposure to an undeniably true (for you) TATT?
by NeverKnew inmany of us know where we were during 9/11 or when john kennedy and martin luther king were killed.. it seems that when faced with ttatt, real truth is dismissed as "ol' light" or "an imperfect group of men" but from what i gather, many of you, at some point, were hit with a component of ttatt that shattered all of those cliches that allowed you to brush off the obvious reality that something was very wrong.
some of you may remember the hours following your earliest exposures to an undeniably true tatt.
did you zone completely out?

When I learned TTATT, I just want to keep reading more, learning more, and investigating to prove to myself what was said was true. It made me realize there was another side of the story I didn't know about because it was demonized and I began to think how I was raised by family to believe in this for my whole life. It's kind of like a loss of identity, I couldn't believe all that was hidden and kept from the people. (and I'm one of the younger members on this forum). TTATT kept going on in my head throughout the day. It also affected my dreams that's for sure, I had watchtower and JWs in my dream for some days after that.
