So that's who he looks like!, grandpa from the Munsters. Thought he had a familiar face. Cross that with Liberace too. RIP Guy Pierce, off to the launching pad. I wonder what they'll do now, if there will be a new member to take his place, or just stick with 7.

Is anyone else completely astonished that they're drawing attention to 1914/2014 - 100 years
by jambon1 ini note that they're making reference to this in the upcoming convention programme.
someone has has dropped a bollock here, have they not?.
i mean, if i were a jw, i'd be sitting thinking of all the promises made and broken.

It's too difficult to drop 1914 at this point. Too many years invested in that date with defending 607, and a lot of important doctrines and authority rely on it. Since it's 100 years, they are forced to recognize it. I think there are many JWs that are doubting or disappointed as you said. Of course, with faith in the faithful and discreet slave, aka the Governing Body, JWs will just follow whatever new information they're told. That's why there was a watchtower study not too long ago about being patient and keep waiting, in the meantime, follow the organization no matter what.

Anybody watching the show Resurrection?
by mynameislame inresurrection.
the lives of the people of arcadia, missouri, are forever changed when their deceased loved ones return.. .
so far it seems to be an interesting take on the subject.

I haven't seen it but I do remember that a couple in the congregation talking about it while out in the field service car ride. The husband is an elder. Anyway, a young brother brings it up, saying how the show portrays the resurrected returning as a kid. the Elder and his wife start talking about how that idea goes against the Bible that the ressurected can't be children and such, that it looks demonic. So I butt in and say that I'm sure that the producers weren't basing it all off the bible, it's just a work of fiction, creativity. Then they did agree, but the Elders wife dissmissed it as a "worldy show" she wasn't going to watch.

Theres a story with similarities to this in the early 70's watchtower article, except it was about a women's rights feminist group. As the story goes, one lady was in this group, became disappointed with the way things worked out because some people argued and some said they we're fighting for "lesbian" rights and such. So this lady studies with the Jehovah's Witnesses, learned about how things will improve in the future, about how a man is suppose to be dominant head-of-the-house, leaves them and became a happy Witness.

Are these people a hopeless case??
by ILoveTTATT inso some jw who apparently only speaks spanish decides to share this article, which turns out to be a satire, to a spanish jw group.. .
http://diversitychronicle.wordpress.com/2013/12/05/pope-francis-condemns-racism-and-declares-that-all-religions-are-true-at-historic-third-vatican-council/.
(it would be so awesome if the article wasn't satire and was true... this would be so far out though... so crazy!!

This is too funny. Gullible people, or course they'll jump on the first bandwagon when it comes to criticizing other religions but when it's their own.. That's something else.

Idiotic Statement in Today's Public Talk

You can still ride a bike without peddling fast, and you can always cruise on one- no need to peddle for a while if theres enough speed. Unless it's a fixed bike

The Last BOE!
by Atlantis inthis is the last boe we will be able to provide.
our informant or source, was caught, disfellowshipped, and thrown out of bethel.
we knew that sooner or later the watchtower would find him out.
-

Oh man, that must be tough. Imagine being a bethelite caught leaking inside information, I bet they gave him a really hard time, probably like what happened in the early 80's with the "witch hunts." At this point, those at headquarters might get paranoid again and start hatching things down. anyways, thanks to that bethelite and Atlantis, and anyone else who helped bring out important information, we appreciate it very much! Maybe we'll hear his story sometime.

A Dummy's Guide to the 'This generation' doctrine
by Honesty ina jehovah's witness explains the watchtower society's 'this generation' doctrine..... .
http://www.topix.com/forum/religion/jehovahs-witness/t3heh0tafiuk6f9t3.
what do you think about his explanation?.
-
A.proclaimer
Still doesn't make sense as already pointed out, the way the generation is being defined is too along. Aside from that, Jesus referred to the generation that was living in his time, that saw his ministry which according to the Bible, did not pass when Jerusalem was destroyed. It wouldn't make sense that the people who didn't see 1914, who weren't alive back then or just babies too young to even understand, to even be part of that significant event.

Ever feel like you were faking it as a JW when you weren't?
by punkofnice ini guess this is cognitive dissonance calling loud and clear!.
i remember being proud to be a jw yet at the same time i felt that i was just fooling myself.. i think this also applies to the stupid doctrines of the watchtower(r).......they made sense but at the same time they didn't.. i had secret self loathing for not being 'zealous(tm)' enough but on the other hand i didn't.. seems to me i had a separation of authentic persona from cult persona.. anyone else get this?.
-
A.proclaimer
That was me pretty much the whole time. Growing up as a JW it's the only thing you know so I always thought it was "the truth" and was glad (at times proud) I "had" it and knew more than others that weren't JWs, but at the same time I didn't have that 100% full interest. I just went along with all the teachings, believing in them. I also felt that I wasn't good enough in the congregation for not being the zealous, preacher type, with big spiritual goals, and that I should be like that, but I just didn't feel it.
