  think about this: if seven times mean only 7 years then daniel could have simply said 7 years.

  why does daniel specifically use the word 'times' rather than years?

  Is this PMJ troll clueless, or what? Let's not feed it anymore.

  Stevenyc, as you pointed out a few posts ago, the sum total of Watchtower teaching on the matter of Noah's preaching is that he indeed preached to the entire world. While the Society has been cagey enough not to directly claim that -- after all, the Bible itself does not directly claim it -- it has done everything but directly claim it, doing its usual talking out of both sides of its mouth at the same time. I believe this has been to stave off the inevitable question that would be raised if they directly stated that Noah did not preach to the entire world: How could a just God kill an entire world of people without warning them? Indeed, the thrust of Watchtower teaching has always been that God's appointing Noah as a preacher to warn the entire world of its coming destruction is proof of his supreme justice.

  What all of this talk back and forth about Noah fails to recognize in regards to Noah and his family, is that he was found righteous before he was told about the flood. The account says specifically that the Ark was only for him and his family. If he did preach anything at all it was "good bye suckers" because there is no provision for any other people. What would not be fair is if Noah who, needed no warning of impending doom, or advance notice, proved to be righteous on his own, was joined by persons who only came aboard the Ark because the alternative was destruction. How could that possibly be fair? Same with Dubs today. They all join the WT like my parents did when my Dad's sister came and pleaded him to come back to "the Truth" (him and my mom were raised in it). Her means to get them back into the witlesses was to scare them about 1975. It worked! My dad hung on until the 1980's. Of course it is not fair. Because neither of them really changed for the better. In fact my mother put him out after he stopped going to the meetings. She lives all alone now and none of her children want anything to do with her. Alan is 100 correct in why the witlesses do not come out and say that Noah covered the earth with preaching. He couldn't have done it even if he wanted to. That fact revealed it would show God is unfair. It would also put an unattainable burden on JW's who just could never reach everyone either....again showing God to be just as unjust. This would throw a stick of dynamite into their theology. However if like Jesus said that the final judgment would be just like ones of Noah and Lot, who were saved because they were righteous first without warning, then God is proved to be fair and just in that the playing field is arguably level. So then when a world is held to account by a judge who comes as a theif in the night and an hour not expected the things Jesus really said in Matt 24 and Luke 17/21 finally make sense. Frank75

  for anyone of us familiar with this religion.....we were taught no one knows the day or the hour.

  now should that be a 7000 year day, 1000 year day or 24 hour day, and any predictions concerning this or assuming knowledge of any sort would be exposing them selves as false prophets.. the wbts likely to whip up a frenzy of one sort or another due to clever rhetoric is typical, but all of us "out" know better.

  it usually happens in the fall, ......just like this year.. no one here needs to hold their breath.

  my elderly dub aunt (who's the biggest whiner the world has ever seen) came over tonight to first of all, whine about how her neighbour shuts her kitchen cupboard doors in the most annoying way possible and her dog barks and what was she supposed to do about it?

  anyway, as soon as these monumental problems were solved, she informed me that at the bookstudy the other night, the conductor told everyone to "stay after the prayer" as he had 'something important to announce.

  " naturally everyone did this, all the while wondering if the red phone at patterson was in direct contact with jehovah himself as the study was being conducted.

  Losch brought up 1975 and compared it to a mother being wrong on predicting the day her baby would be born-of course she wouldn't throw out the baby clothes, cribs, etc because of this, she KNOWS the baby is coming!

  Just chock that up to the kooky crap they can get away with and people don't get up and walk out after hearing it.....I guess I put up with it too.

  I had a similar comeback from a JW Apologist on another site who said this. (She has been a JW since 1993, and doesn't believe any negative JW history prior to that time is relevant to her.)

  I have, however, heard as in the last convention I attended two weeks ago that the speaker said: "this may be our last convention before the new system." Then there was SILENCE. Then the speaker said: "But I have been saying this for the last 50 years." Then the audience broke into laughter.

  Ha ha ha ha haaaha! That is so funny isn't it? The above comment is typical of the cavalier attitude these guys have about what they said in the past and how it has affected thousands of people lives. Like a cat toying with a mouse, or an "evil slave beating his fellow slaves" they get a sadistic pleasure from it.

  You see, accusation like this has become an inside joke. Nobody I know, not in the congregation or JW I meet in the ministry has ever said to me about the exact "day and hour." It's probably just misinterpretation.

  She must meet lots of JW's in "the ministry".

  I responded this way to her and make it apply doubly so to Losche:

  The difference is that if you said to all the people in your community that you are a prophet of the true God "Jehovah" and you have been appointed by him to speak for him in these days, and then you said that Armageddon is so close within 5 or 10 years and that your car will last until then…..then that makes you a false prophet if you car does not last until the end or if the end does not come in 5 to 10 years.

  No one would be upset at the mother who sincerely believed that her child would be born on a certain date.

  Who they would be upset with would be the Doctor who told them the date, made them book a hospital on that date and bullied them into doing so by power posturing the mother with "Do you not know who I am and what my credentials are as well as extensive education?". "If you do not pack your bags right now you are an idiot!"

  To be more appropriate to the context of JW's is that after all of that, the woman wasn't even pregnant, but the Doctor still sent her a bill!!
