Yes they should but it should be on own terms. For example JW's welcome to visit, but any crap to me and they are out. Mother welcome to read bible and mags, no witnessing to me. My mothers in a home for the elderly and as NO jw's come to see her and I just walk out if she starts talking crap. She has learnt the hard way. Anyway the visitors she has are all worldy and as I have pointed out have been better, loyal friends than any of the JW's
So yes help your parents but have rules.

i am in the process of writing a letter to my mother.i have been told by family members that she knows im going to come back into the fold.and has thus decided that untill i do she will not be in the same place as i am again.this also includes mt parents 50th wedding anniversary in june.my father wants me there is has never been a jw.but mom has decided that if i attend then she cannot.this all added to the fact that she is in continual contact with my eldest daughter to "keep consistent" in their treatment of me.i am angry and intend to explain to her the fact that i will never be a jw again and to explain to her why.. i have seen many wonderful letters others have posted to family members.im just looking for anyone who has any ideas or thoughts that i might be able to use in my letter..

remember a few years ago 97 and down even more there use to be food at the assemblys(not the big rent-astadium ones).
i remember back then probally being 5,6,7,8 they use to give out food like hots hamburgers chips and so.

Maybe because of people like me, When cash was being used I used a 50/50 split between me and the JW's when they used coupons I had to resell my split with a "on no what a silly sister I am I've brought to many coupons would you like to buy some off me, I sell them to you at a cheap rate" and when they just had tokens for a "meal" I wouldn't hand over the token and walk off like I had forgotten and then resell the token. Having my cake and eating it, so to speak.
Not very proud of my behaviour now, but I felt like the wolf amongs't the sheep, which appealed to my sense of humour!
i feel for the elderly who have put all thier hopes in the society and now really have no one to turn to.my mom is reaching 70 and was converted in the late 60s she still believes it is the truth but i think because she has nowhere else to go i think it is true also for all the elderly in the hall i bet some still believe some of the old doctines and have no idea about the new ones but are still hanging on because they feel thier is nowhere else to go, they basically sacrifsied thier lifes for the organazation.
It is sad, they have no savings, live in low cost rental housing, often with no children, or DF children. The only people they have contact with are the govt agencies that look after them, no sign of the JW's anywhere. My father died in an old folks home, only one witness came to see him in 2 years, the Prespraterian Father came every sunday to visit the old folks. He died with his bible and his "faith" and a nagging feeling that it was all for nothing.

i was talking to my twin sister tonight on how i didn't want to go to the upcoming convention this weekend because we had already been to it 2 months ago... .
i have to prepare some audition matrial for a arts event and my parents are not sympathtic to the fact i got allot to do, and we've already been.
I really feel for you and hope this board can help you. Can I suggest you open another bank account without your parents co signing to enable you some finanical independence. This will in time with savings give you more options eg: to move out on your own . Your parents by having your twin still living at home at 23 gives then not only control over her but indirectly over you because of your relaionship with her. Whatever you decide to do I feel you will not be happy. But I can tell you that living a lie will eat you up inside destroying your creativity and making you hate yourself. Whether you make the move from the JW;s now or in the future you will still loose your family. By staying in, it may be a choice of you or them. By staying in longer you are drawing out the pain, unless you believe that you may be able to change your twin's mind about the JW's and take her with you. I wish you the best in whatever you decide, please look after yourself.

i live in nz and it doesn't feel like xmas to me cause it's the middle of summer - it just doesn't compute so that helps really all in all.
I love it, I finally get gifts (just from the husband). I put up and decorate the christmas tree. Have sweet revenge on my mother (Dad died) who is now old and lonely and wants us all the have a family "get together" on christmas day. All the rest of the family wants noththing to do with the jws and certainly don't want to have christmas with a mum who stopped us having xmas for 40 years. LOL
Going away this year but usually just hang at the beach, (I live on the beach) and go for drinks/food all over the neighbourhood. Eat myself silly and get rolling drunk requiring a nap by late afternoon.

Yes but I am lucky I work with another ex Dub, we often crack jokes about the polyester suits he used to wear. And sometimes discuss how great birthdays are and the good times with our families at xmas.(Not however our extended families) I remind he, if he has to go to a customers house he is not to sell magazines or call the customer "householder"
england are through the semi-final with france whom they beat today 24 - 7. now we face the aussies, who, btw, get absolutely paranoid at the thought of england being better than them at anything.. the final takes place next saturday in australia.

what do everyone's screen names mean?
some are pretty self-explanatory, but a few have me intrigued.
Teela as in Teela Brown a character from a Larry Niven novel called Ringworld. Her life was controlled by luck and in lots of ways my life has had a lot of good luck in it, also it has changed my direction in life .
i feel that my education was stunted due to the jw belief that education is not important.
as a result i have not been able to follow my dreams, or follow the career i?m sure i was put on this earth to do.
