  Blasphemy

  i was asked how come the bible says that god forgives blasphemy to the father and the son, but not the holy spirit.

  if they all are god, what makes the person of the holy spirit more important regarding blasphemy than the father or the son.

  sorry, i don't know much about the bible, but i'm trying to learn here, alright?

  this topic really caught my interest so i quoted the scripture in Matthew and posted the question on a bible study forum to be answered by one of the bible experts there.

  here's what i got for a response:

  answer: The key begins in verse 24. Matthew 12:24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is not recognizing Him as the Spirit of God, rejecting Him who is the one who draws us to Christ. If we reject the Holy Spirit calling Him evil as the Pharasees did, we can't come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ."

  to which i responded:

  "so why is it forgivable to blaspheme against god and the son?"

  Their most helpful, enlightening answer was :

  Buying out the opportune time

  all of my life, i was told by the society that i should buy out the opportune time.

  to them, this phrase meant that i should cut down on watching tv or some other worthless activity, and of course, spend that newfound time worshipping the great publishing company.

  well, since i stopped going to meetings on april 10, 2002, i have discovered an entirely new and far more enjoyable application for the admonition to buy out the opportune time.

  do any of you want kids but have a mate who doesnt, or dont want kids but have a mate that does? that's sort of my situation...my boyfriend wants kids SO BAD, and i adore him, but there's just no way i'm having one. we're sort of at a standstill on this one.

  I run 30 miles a week

  I actually watch cartoons on Saturday morning (that is what Saturday mornings are FOR!)

  I read lots of books that are 'frowned upon' by the Society

  and I spend time UNSUPERVISED! (oh, my!) with members of the OPPOSITE SEX!! (gasp) WITHOUT the intent of marrying them!!!

  for some unknown reason i decided to torture myself and attended the july assembly.

  i found the talk "beware the voice of strangers" particularly interesting.

  although it seems, according to my jw mother, that i got the wrong message from the talk.

  it seems kind of odd that a part in the assembly would be directed at apostates...i thought apostates were expected NOT to attend the assemblies? ;)

  i'm working 3rd shift for 32 hrs a week with a potential of overtime at a shell station for $8.50 an hr.. w00 h00!!!.

  as you associate with jehovah's organization, you will find the atmosphere very different from that of temples and churches.

  there is no soliciting of money, no backbiting or quarreling, and no discrimination because of family background or financial standing.
