Sounds like the "puff" piece was a bit of a "fluff" piece, huh? Thanks for the review. The film sounds pretty insubstantial. Not much to worry about in the way of "worldlings" swarming to the "truth" over this one...

Why are Witnesses better at being "Mean" than being "Nice"?
by JH inif the elders tell the congregation to shun someone, they will do a good job at it.. if the elders tell the congregation to be good to one another and forgive one another, it doesn't always happen.. if someone is in need in the congregation, it doesn't mean that they will be helped.. so, why are the witnesses better at being mean or insensitive, rather than nice and caring and generous?.
my sister is not a witness.
she is of another religion, and when someone in the congregation needs help, they go full speed ahead to help.

Groups like JWs reinforce the "us" and "them" mentality. We all have it to a certain degree, but exclusive groups develop it into an art-form. It gives the mind permission to view "others" as non-humans. It's the type of psychological programming a soldier receives so the soldier can do his job... which may include killing another human. JWs are also "soldiers," involved in "God's War" or "Theocratic Warfare," so in some ways the JW has to dehumanize "others" so he can do his job... stay faithful and watch the "others" be destroyed at Armageddon. It's a very small and easy step to go from there to being "mean" to "others."

My daughter on religion

yesterday she took the prince of egypt, which is a cartoon version of moses' story.
as she watched it this afternoon, i was kind of curious of what she would feel about it.

Your daughter is a thinker. Very interesting. Maybe her comment about "religion" is referring to spirituality, the type that some indigenous populations have, where they recognize the pattern of life and how everything is interwoven together: nature and man. If so, her appreciation for the sun and moon as symbols of "religion" is very astute and instinctual. Kudos to you for encouraging her to think it out for herself.

ah jebus, Brooke. (((( brooke )))) you want me to come kick her in the shins? (kidding) You need to tell her she is not allowed to talk to you that way. I had to do it with my brother, (he told me he "loathed" me,) and you know what? He doesn't hardly talk to me at all anymore, because he can't figure out how to talk nicely to me.
Sorry she's behaving like that. Don't buy into what she said. If you have happy, well-behaved children, you are a good mommy. And there is no Armaggedon, so you're protecting them from being terrified of the boogeyman too. Good for you! more ((((( brooke ))))) -

It's so weird it's comical... except for the part about Andrea Yates, that was chilling. (whoever made that comment you are right on.) Sister-in-law sounds a bit off the deep end. Other than being a nuisance to the two of you adults, she probably can't do anything to you. But be careful with the baby around her. Don't give her any opportunity, ever, to be alone with him.
There are lots of people on this board who have prayed for loved ones to die or be killed before Armaggedon so they wouldn't "die in a judgement period," and they could be resurrected. She is "not okay with pre-armaggedon gehenna suicide," what does that mean? Is she unbalanced enough to take matters into her own hands so that nobody "suicides?" Does she "love" you enough to "give you a chance" by harming you before Armaggedon?
Obviously, I don't know what potential for "divine violence" your sister-in-law has, but be careful. She sounds like a tragedy waiting to happen. -

Will many prayers work better than just one prayer?
by JH indid you honestly believe that praying for someone else or someone praying for you would have a better chance of working than just the person praying alone for himself?.
gee, why would god need many people to pray for one person?
isn't one prayer honest enough?
