Mostly denim pants/capris and black t-shirts. Short sleeves in summer, long in winter. I occasionally trade out with yoga pants, and have been known to wear other non-denim jeans on occasion. I last wore a dress for a wedding, but it was probably not very KH appropriate. Other than VERY special occasions, I avoid things that would require wearing dresses or even dress pants and dress shoes. A nice shirt I can handle. It seems to be the biggest visceral reaction I have developed after leaving the Dubs, I HATE jwish dress clothes, actually get a knot in my stomach if I have to put on pantyhose.
At the moment, I am wearing yoga pants and a t-shirt. Fortunately, I can wear the same type of clothing for work.

I love Portland. Please don't move here.
Just kidding.
Sorta.
hehe
Up until the 70s there were signs on the highways, real signs that said things like "Enjoy your visit, please don't stay." Bumper stickers said "Don't Californicate Oregon" and even Gov. Tom McCall said once in a speech, "Visit but for heaven's sake don't stay." Mostly it's just a joke, except to some old-timers and natives. Yeah, traffic is getting dense in certain areas, but it's still tolerable, and on most clear days you get nice views of mountains 100 miles away. -

Can you completely change beliefs almost overnight?
by JH in.
i was talking with a person who was a jw for over 20 years, served in the org, and then quits after finding out it wasn't the truth, becomes athiest almost overnight after reading many books.. gee, thats a quick change....

Yep, how about in one morning? Friday, July 4th, 2003, we were on our way to the District Convention. I was still a true believer, but very frustrated with PEOPLE, not necessarily doctrine. I started reading Crisis of Conscience when we hit the freeway west of Portland. By the time we reached Seattle, I knew it was all lies and I wouldn't be going back. Two days later we made a token showing at the Sunday program of the D.C. (we were there for about an hour of program, and an hour of lunch break.) We haven't been back since.
So yeah, I think your beliefs can completely change overnight, though as Dave (AA) said, it really is more about dropping beliefs that you have discovered are not true. I don't think a person can change ALL of their beliefs overnight, (or overnight-ish,) since it takes a bit of effort and self-evaluation to sort through them. -

This happened locally, if your a parent ... learn from it

i actually used to live about three houses down from these people.
when i read of something like this, it makes me all the more careful as a parent and never assume anything when it comes to your young children.

I know someone who this happened in their family. Kid ran behind the dad, and he ran over the boy and killed him. It scares me. I almost hit a kid in our neighborhood who ran behind my car as I was backing out of my driveway. He was about 2 years old, and he ran out from behind a bush and slapped the back of my car then ran away. I caught movement in the corner of my eye and hit the brakes because I thought it was a critter. Good thing I did, or I would have run him over.
His parents were inside, not paying any attention to him as usual. -

Does it feel good to hurt? Why do we make ourselves sad?
by AlmostAtheist ini've noticed that there are certain songs, movies, memories, etc that make me sad.
there is even a category of music we call "sad songs".
it seems obvious that we would never listen to something that makes us sad.
-

It's easier to feel other emotions like anger, or nothing. Sad songs give us an outlet for sad feelings that is "safe." When the song is over we can get back to normal life, or if we really need to experience sadness, the music can be a catalyst to help the emotions come up into consciousness.

It is a mistake to assume that just because there were positive results from an experience, that these positive things could not have been gained elsewhere and at less emotional and psychological cost. Sometimes we attempt to put a positive spin on a bad situation simply because it is easier than facing the task of processing that bad situation - as if somehow this so-called "good" tempers the entire damaging experience into something that is "okay," and therefore unnecessary to resolve, "get over" or otherwise "process."
