Vinny has already shown his intellectual dishonesty regarding the Einstein thing. He has repeatedly been shown actual quotes from Einstein that contradict what he claims Einstein to believe. Why should we expect intellectual integrity from him on any other topic? I guess that's what happens when you spend your life looking through the ass end of a keychain souvenir viewmaster.

I got married yesterday!
by Gadget ini've been posting on here for four years now, and so much has changed in my life.
everything seemed to be going wrong then, but time has done wonders and things are real good now.
lots of people on the board helped and supported me through that, as well as new non-witness friends that i made.

How do you think God feels about atheists? Angry? Amused?
by AlmostAtheist inhey guys, .
have you ever considered what god thinks about atheists?
assume for a moment that he/she/it is there: what's the reaction to non-believers?

Right. A supposed all-powerful creator of worlds, universal deity, omnipotent magical being cares whether we believe in him or not? That's like asking me how I feel about what the ants under my deck think of me: Am I amused that they blame me for the environmental issues caused to their nests by using treated lumber? Am I angry that they don't believe I love them? Am I proud of them for doing a damn fine job with their chewing?
Hey, unless they eat the deck and it falls down, I'm barely aware of their presence. Even if they eat the deck and it falls down, it's really only a thing that happened, I have no concern whatsoever with the individual ants, ant families, their community, burrows, or whether they studied their AntTower for the Sunday Special Chewssembly Day.

In Memorandum
by RichieRich init was the 14th of april last year that i had to sit my mother down and tell her i was an apostate.. i was closer to her than anyone else.
my father and mother are still married, but he let her raise me as a witness, and that meant it was me and mom.. me and mom in field service for 100 hours in july because she had to make her time as a regular pioneer.. me and mom fighting over what to bring for lunch to the district convention.. me and mom up late at night, when she would berate me, and then unload all her problems on to me.. me and mom and our 4 hour family studies, where we discuss 2 paragraphs of a random book, and then she would browbeat me until early in the morning.. somehow, through all that, i pretended to be a witness for years, just to appease her.
looking back, i don't know if i loved her, or if i was just afraid of her.

I think he DID survive it very well without Jehovah's help. He deserves the credit, not the god of that abusive little cult. Why is it that when someone survives something through their own determination and strength of character, some people will try to take it away by saying "you couldn't have done it without god"?

Oh man, Amanda KICKS ASS! If you're interested in Infinity, you should go into the shop and check them out. Paul's portfolio is amazing too. Alice did both of mine, but I have to go back in for more detail on the second one. It was 95+ degrees the day I had it done, and I swear I sweat the ink right out. I haven't seen the new shop, other than a couple of shots on the website, but the old one was really clean and nice.

OK, so let's test the science advocates out here.............
by NotaNess ini'll start it off, then someone else give them a different challenge if you can think of any.. please give definitive examples that by evolution, a species has changed into something else.
give two separate findings by scientists, and it can't include any comments like "so we believe", "so we conclude that", or "the evidence shows that there could have been".....the wts has those copyrighted.. try and give un-doctored photographic proof, where possible, etc.
by the way the hominid skulls and the like will not be accepted, transition has never been proven, i don't think, just that they are different, and scientists "believe", they are pre-homo-sapiens.. i'm not saying you won't have examples, we just want you to walk the talk.

Hey AlanF, does that mean if I were to meet one of those gorgeous, strapping, musclebound cavemen, we would NOT be able to produce beautiful hairy children? Damn that speciation.

What Was Your Social Life Like As A Witness?
by minimus inmy (ex)wife and i asssociated with a few other couples and was considered "popular".
how was your social life?
did you have much of one?
-
Odrade
Good in some ways- especially when I was a kid, really bad in others. The social experience is what led us to be inactive. We got blacklisted from ALL social activities after I tried to get the elders to do something about the (habitually) drunk M.S.'s wife who screamed at me at a party in front of a whole bunch of people for not allowing her to grope me. (I don't like drunk people touching me.) Not a single person at the party (including elders and pioneers) would admit that they saw anything. Bunch of damn liars closing ranks I guess.

Watching "Knocking" Now, Sunday Night, on WGBH Boston...Some thoughts...
by Seeker4 inok, first, this is not a film that would draw anyone to be a jw.
the witnesses come across as a really odd fundamentalist religion.
they are called fundamentalists several times in the film, and certainly seem quite unappealing.. it's not a film that favors jws.
-
Odrade
Exactly why I didn't personally join the campaign to keep it from being broadcast. I suspect there's no way to make JWs look mainstream, and still have major programming pick it up. In fact, I've been looking forward to the airing, since many people will get to see more detail about the fundamentalism of this "nicely dressed, polite" group of door-knockers.
Around here, most people don't know any more about the JWs than "they dress nice" and they "have good manners," and sometimes "Are those the people who don't celebrate birthdays?"
BTW, lmao @ the "3" and "8".
