My story: "Pop!" goes the Little Circuit Breaker
by TJ - iAmCleared2Land ini guess it's about time i write my story.
i've put this off for a long time... primarily becuase, while i thought my story was bad, i've read so many worse and heart-rending stories here.
i think, though, there is some therapeutic value in 'letting it all out' with others who know what 'it' was like.

There was a little girl in the KH where I grew up, she was a "mistake" and I can't really remember a week that went by that someone in her family didn't remind her of it in that not-quite-joking voice. I thought it was horrible then, and said so, but nobody listens to a teenaged girl in the Organization, even if her dad is one of the most intimidating guys in the hall. If it didn't come from an elder, it was less than worthless. Her step-grandfather turned out to be a kiddie rapist, btw.
Thank you so much for sharing your tale. Sadly, I think this dirty underseam is not terribly uncommon in high-control religions. I'm glad you have your siblings (and a therapist) to talk this over with.

Let me rephrase my deleted post to you BiKerchic: Can I take it by your actions that you support the demands of posters here to "verify" identity of new posters that have an interesting story? Can I take it by your actions that you believe that publicly shouting that you believe a new poster is a LIAR or that things sound fishy, and that you stand by your public suspicions until the poster proves themselves" is completely irrelevant to same poster being upset about someone she cares about being forcibly exposed?
Are you insulting me as a moderator? or as a regular poster? Because if your personal attack is as a moderator, then I won't question it. But if your personal attack is as a regular poster, then I say BRAVO! your hypocrisy is showing again. Might want to tuck it back into your pants.

Why is infant Mortality in US worse than Morocco or Costa Rica?
by hamsterbait inwhy are there so many premature births?.
why are the deaths of the premature higher in the us?.
why is the mortality for african americans babies more than 2.5% higher than for others ( 5% as opposed to 13%)?
-

Good girl, true. There are explanations out there regarding infant mortality that shed light on the statistics. In the USA, a baby born alive at 21-22 weeks is routinely put on life support. Many of them do not survive, thus becoming part of the mortality statistic. In less developed nations, the child that is born that prematurely is considered a "miscarriage," and as such, is not counted in those statistics.
More revelatory would be infant mortality statistics that are specific, for example: infant death due to homicide, illness, malnutrition, premature birth complications, congenital defects, etc. Then a straight-line comparison could be made to other country's statistics that would give a truer picture.

You're right. The warning said: Be careful what personal information you post or give to other posters, since you could be exposed. To that, one should add: Be careful that your story is not too interesting, or people could demand that you expose yourself in order to "verify" that you are real. If you don't "verify," you will be investigated.
Hmmm, funny, those two things aren't so different after all. Forced expose, and um... well, forced exposure. Makes no difference whatsoever which direction it comes from. Had the "warning" come from someone who had not participated in an unjustified witchhunt, and still publicly stands by her suspicion until said anonymous poster "verifies" her real-life identity, (whether she originally wished to expose herself or not,) I don't feel I'm missing the point at all.

It's a "cause" that I won't drop. I know I'm not the only one who feels like this, and I'm pretty sick of seeing people demanding that new posters (and established) reveal themselves or be thought a troll. Since your discussion is about forcible "outing" and since you are one of the people who wanted another poster to give up her anonymity to satisfy your paranoia, I think this is a perfectly acceptable place to discuss it.

:::JWD should have an authenticated user mechanism whereby if you are happy to be identified everybody else can see who you are, and validate you.
Why? All that would do is foster the paranoia we've already seen. If a new poster comes on this site with an interesting or dramatic story, and is unwilling to allow themselves be "verified" due to wishing to retain some anonymity, they could be vilified and viewed with suspicion, with demands to "verify" themselves somehow would be hurled at them by the same people that are howling about getting outed.
It amounts to the same thing. Demands to prove identity are nearly as abusive as "outing" someone.

Elders breaking ecclesiastical privelege.
by avishai inhow often have you seen this happen?
seems like even when i was a little kid, i'd find out why someone got df'd.
usually almost immediately.

Avi, there was a talk given like that in a hall we attended about 8 years ago. It was extremely cryptic, and the only thing we could guess was that someone "important" had done something, and they were threatening whoever knew to keep their mouths shut. It was weird because the gossip mill is almost its own entity. Ha!

How are American Small businesses at a disadvantage?
by wanderlustguy ini've read this on the thread about minimum wage, and i own a small business, have run several small businesses (under 100 employees) and feel this is one of the easiest, least restrictive, and most profitable business demographics to be in.
as a matter of fact, i do even better the smaller the business is.
so...first off...do you own your own small business?
-
Odrade
Yep, small business. Sometimes I love it, sometimes it's a pain in the butt. Recently tried my hand at being an employer, I HATED that, so I'm back to just me. I don't know precisely if I'm "disadvantaged," but it seems that the paperwork hoops a small business owner has to jump through, can be a bit excessive. However, even after taxes, I come out ahead of where I would be if I worked for someone else doing the exact same thing, so I'm happy.
