Did You Make Excuses For The Jehovah's Witness Religion?
by minimus indid you ever find yourself having to defend your faith, while at the same time knowing, that your arguments were not so good to begin with?
for example, a person might say,"you people don't take blood and believe in doctors.
" even if we might have doubts about the blood issue, we would still defend our "faith" as best as we could.

You people don't.....The list of don'ts was very long.So,I would focus on the list of what we do,and that list at the time was also very long.For every negative I gave a positive.What a struggle it was at the time,I'm glad that its over for me,no more defending the Society.

Do you believe in free will?

do you believe in free will?and if you do can you explain how it works?.
i can't see how free will could work.our motivation for doing things good or bad seems to come from a mixture of genes and enviroment, and through a long and complicted process cause us to perform all the actions we experience in life.when we feel a prompting to do something ,eat sleep have sex etc, this is accomplished by our body using chemicals in our bodies to give us a feeling that we then act upon.the degree to which these chemicals prompt us is related to genetic makeup and environment.. so some people have a bigger desire to eat than others because they lack the chemical stimulation that tells them to stop eating.or some will eat less (often when ill) because the chemicals that prompt you to eat are lacking.in normal life lots of over factors will be involved to like say an important phonecall at lunch time .if your brain feels the information from that call is important enough it will send out different chemicals that will cause you to attend to that situation first if serious enought.. knowledge can modify how our bodies react to certain situations, for example a child may see an icecream van and run into the road because his body has yet to learn of the danger of running into a road.when taught how foolish this by a nasty experience or hopefully , taught about the dangers by its parents, then the body will send out a meesage to look at the road first.. our bodies tell us which ideas are good and bad according to the information it holds and we react accordingly.we can fight desires but the will to do so is caused by other desires which are prompted by the body.. to have true free will neither our genes or enviroment could effect what we decide to do.. we have to be able to do things irespective of what promting we recive from our bodies or what information we have learnt and has thus modified our bodies response.. maybe there are but i can not think of any situation where or actions or reactions can not be explianed by genes mixed with environment (often in a very complicated way).nor can i understand how free will could work,unless free will is just a random action which could not be free will in the true sense.. if there is no free will then if there were a god and we are judged on what we do then this is entirely unfair as we really have little say in what we do in life.

PS and LT.It is not about cheaping or cowardness.Its about the "Carrot" the reward for choosing to use your free will in a way that lines up with God's and Jesus'.There is expectation in a self- sacrificing spirit.That is not wrong to want,it is a normal process of self- preservation when it comes to whether humans have free will,I believe free will is controlled by other forces in our lives,as was already discussed on this post.Hence ,because free will is controlled,it is not truley free will. My opinion of cause,one that is not easily resolvable.

On my one year anniversary back in August 04,2003 I thanked Simon and many others and gave the reasons I have liked this forum,it has been very therapeutic for my family on our slow fade out of the WT.Society.We have been helped by many including you Minimus.And I hope that I too have been a help to still others as well.

Why Aren't Jehovah's Witnesses Allowed To Freely Express Themselves?

jw's cannot freely express themselves.
they can't freely tell another about a doubt or a question that they might have for fear they could be exposed to the elders.

Jesus would many times ask his disciples,"What do you think?"After allowing them to express themselves freely,they would have a lively discussion as a follow up.
The SOCIETY does not imitate Jesus in this manner because they fear independent thinking which in turn could lead to loss of members and money.

What's The Silliest Rule That You've Seen In The Organization Or Cong.???
by minimus inone congregation in the 70's allowed only white shirts to be worn on the platform.
if an out of town speaker didn't know the "rule", it was ok. the brothers kept a variety of white shirts in different sizes in case that happened.

I don't talk about religion or politics.I do talk about religion and politics.No I don't,yes I do.Now I'm sounding like the WT.Society talking out of both sides of my mouth.
Seriously now,I get involved in political discussions whenever it is brought up.I remember the old promises,a chicken in every pot,two cars in every garage,and no one should ever be denied health care.we live in the great society!A new generation has the torch! On and on,etc.etc.I have not voted yet,we will see.
