i was just a little kid when the 1975 thing came about, didn't pay much attention to it, after it was over, my parents told me it was just some people being over anxious, and being about 8 at the time i believed it, now when you research you find some amazing articles.
what do you remember being told about 1975 as the year got closer ?
I remember telling other kids at school that the world would end in 1975. Also my mother didn't want to buy a new school uniform because it would be a waste of money It was only when I explained that the money would be no good after armageddon that she bought it.
Its amazing how many people are still witnesses to this day.

One thing that has been going through my mind recently is that god is the greatest "prick teaser" ever. I have tried to think of a better way to say it but can't. Humans have been led on for thousands of years believing that there is something better for them but they never quite reach it.
Life is full of promise and dreams which we rarely achieve. We have the ability, even a need to dream and wish for a better life, we get upset when either we or our family don't do well. Yet a god who can do something about it has not. He has left us to suffer.
I cannot think of a single good human being who would stand by and watch while people he loved suffered, he would do something immediately.
That makes me think that if a god exists he does not really care about us.
when we first left the dubs, we celebrated x-mas pretty much straight away, but had no decorations or tree, and only gave gifts to each other.
for some reason it just seemed wrong to put up decorations and we continued to celebrate this way for about 5 years.
we decided to put up decorations when it was my daughters 1st x-mas, and have never looked back.
I do sort of celebrate it because everyone esle around me does. But I don't like it and feel very uncomfortable with the whole idea. Been df'd for 4 years and don't reckon I will ever enjoy christmas.

It is really worrying that I can't think of a single prophesy that came true. What about the rise of the united nations after the league of nations fell.
The law of averages would suggest that they got at least one right, even accidentally.

I always thought that I was a poor JW because of lingering doubts, but it wasn't a question you could ask others at the time

as my name suggests, i'm from nyc.
i've lived in every borough of new york and spent time at most of the local congregations until i finally decided that it was all for nothing (my recent posts on this forum explain why).
during this time, i noticed an interesting pattern - the jws only preach in poor to middle class neighborhoods.
I always liked the upperclass areas. It meant more walking between doors, because the houses and gardens were bigger. It was easy to get a lot of hours in and you didn't have to speak to so many people.

if you truly believed it at one stage that you would never die and now realise that this is not the case, has it made you worried about death and how life is so short.

First time I have posted.
It took me 20 years and still counting. DF was an easy way for me to stop attending, but mentally I am still suffering, although it gets easier every year. (Actually stopped attending 4 years ago).
I was disfellowshipped during a very bad time in my life. My wife had divorced me and kept the kids. When I was DF'd I then lost every friend I had for 30 years. My whole world caved in. That lack of love and concern for a person who was suffering really made me lose any confidence that JWs were right. Things turned out alright in the end, my kids now live with me.
I still think, what if they are right, sometimes. But you can't live as a JW just because you are not certain what is right or wrong anymore.
