When a JW, what did you think about human fossils of 1.2 million years
by LouBelle inwhen i was in and documentaries came on the telly about human fossils being found dated 800 000 years old or 1.2 million years old i would always say - they surely must have the dating process wrong (hello - i'm not expert) or would try find a loop whole to make sure that the belief of mans' 6/7000 year existance.. i also used to reason that they were probably a species of apes or forgeries - anything to make myself believe we as jws' were right - i did this without even "thinking" really - like breathing.. i even studied science & biology at school and would also have to come up with ""excuses"" for this or that.
ag what did we know we were only kids, but when you become an adult and have adult reasoning faculties one can't ignore the facts.. so what did you create as a safe bubble when things like this came up?.

I think we all got the carbon dating is wrong talk. It didn't make sense to me,even as a kid that if the dinosaurs got washed away in the flood how come clusters of fosilized eggs have been found intact ? And if there were no polar ice caps before the flood why do we find layers of ice going back tens of thousands of years when sample cores are extracted?

in fact, there is a very exclusive walk-through next week for some of the top real estate investors/developers who will see all the properties, starting with the sands, and its lobby has now been remodeled to look just like a high-end hotel..................just fyi.................................oompa

All the "worldly" MUST be removed for the sake of religious purity.
I don't think they are much for camps and ovens, more like fireballs, pestilence and earthquakes.

after all, they will walk under the ladders and cross the paths of black cats without flinching.
when i was in, i would often go out of my way to go under unoccupied ladders (i do not recommend walking under occupied ladders, because someone might drop something and hit you in the head).

Memorial conundrum - "So good to see you. Where have you been?"
by Meeting Junkie No More inok, gearing up for the memorial - our annual have to attend.
this is the first year that we will be showing up without having been to meetings in months.
on the last meeting i was cajoled into attending, i was bombarded with the above question.

What do JW's do to help the poor & needy at this time of year, or ever?
by Must obey! injust about every church i know of does something for the poor and needy around this time of year, who are not necessarily christians or members of their church.
from helping prisoners to delivering food hampers to visiting the lonely and elderly to helping poor people and children overseas, most churches i'm aware of do at least something to materially help the suffering in the community, home and abroad, regardless of their religious orientation.
many of these churches have programmes providing such assistance all year around, even many catholic churches.. but what do the jw's do to actually practically help the suffering and poor at this time of year, or ever?

I phoned London Bethel re Michael Porter / sex offender
by ThomasCovenant ini rang london bethel and asked to speak to someone about the recent case in the british press about a jw child sex offender.
the lady at reception asked if i was a witness.
i replied that i can't see what that has got to do with it i just would like to ask some questions.

it can be said that he is appointed by holy spirit. Another fine example of the old "Watchtower Shuffle"...Is he appointed by the holy spirit YES or NO? Obviously the answer is NO. The phrase "it can be said" is meaningless drivel. If you believe the bible is inspired then anyone following any of it's teachings no matter what thier faith or not COULD BE SAID to be led by the holy spirit. I presented this scenario to an elder one time, he had no answer.
Also I know a "brother" who was going to be appointed as an elder, when he found out he let it be known that there was no way he would take the position. He was told that he was resisting the holy spirit.
What about Ewart Chitty? He had "special affection" for the boys long before the spirit elevated him to the governing body.
