Does Jehovah Intervene - JW Teaching
by thedepressedsoul ini have been a jw my whole life and i have never been able to get a clear answer on this question.
jw's do not believe that jehovah will intervene if someone is sick, dying or stopping a car crash.
they feel that jehovah is letting "this world" play out before he solves all of these problems.

This "mysteries" are usually solved, in one way or another, by answering that we don't know why God does what he does, as many here have stated. What we forget, once those big lingering questions begin to pour in to our minds, is that we were once told, earlier in our indoctrination, the other faiths were false and insensible for teachings things like "we don't know why God allowed your child to die, but we do know he must have a plan for you"

Organization, not a concept established by God
by StarTrekAngel ini was dwelling over a discussion going on at jw-archive.
the old topic of the legitimacy of the gb and the concept of centralized organization.
despite what the wt claims, there are a number of examples in the new testament of actions and decisions taken without direction or even the awareness of the elders in jerusalem.. despite whatever other evidence jw may have about the organizational tendencies of god (namely the creation, universe, whatever else they usually bring up), the concept of an organized nation never originated from god.

Interesting comments. Thank you all very much.
It seems to me that is also pretty evident that the bible indicates the need for a nation had nothing to do with the idea of organized religion. By the time the bible mentioned that mankind began seeking God again, there were plenty of splinter groups of men, kingdoms and villages. Each with its own set of Gods. All of them attributed their successes to their Gods and payed sacrifices to their Gods when they felt blessed. This is why every time the bible mentions of people who came to recognize that Jehovah was the true and only God. In Exodus 18:11, Jetro recognizes that "the lord is greater than all other Gods..", meaning he had others, but none had acted like this one and shown proof of his might.
Building a nation was a fulfillment to his promise to Abraham, which ultimately was needed to proof all other nations that he was the only true God. Therefore it was not necessary for anyone to actually be with the Israelites in order to be accepted by God. Take Rahab for example. Once she recognized her Gods were worthless by the witnessing brought to her, she was able to save herself and her family, despite being a prostitute and not a worshipper of Jehovah, up until the last moment. Building a nation was a tool for establishing sovereignty just as much as if it happened today God may have chosen to build a political party. The commandments were the constitution and once the sovereignty was well established, there was no more of a need for it but the Jews continued as a nation, which is expected, but just did not get the idea that as a social and political unit, they were no longer relevant. Therefore, from what I read, building a nation was not the cause, but an effect, a sort of a necessary consequence of carrying out the plan. Just like when entire mini-cities are built around large projects, like large dams, but then even when the project is complete, the towns live on.
In conclusion, taking the example of Moises as a way to show God wants an organized religion in order to accept the worship of men, is misleading, at best inaccurate and has no scriptural support.

I was dwelling over a discussion going on at JW-Archive. The old topic of the legitimacy of the GB and the concept of centralized organization. Despite what the WT claims, there are a number of examples in the new testament of actions and decisions taken without direction or even the awareness of the elders in Jerusalem.
Despite whatever other evidence JW may have about the organizational tendencies of God (namely the creation, universe, whatever else they usually bring up), the concept of an organized nation never originated from God. If we stick to the bible references, the first time that Moises organizes the Israelites, not much later after leaving Egypt, was after he was advised by his father in law, not God. Jetro was not part of the group that left Egypt, neither he seems to have been a Jew. After Moises told him of everything God had done for the Jews, he proceeded to recognize Jehovah as the true God. Something that fits with some accounts of him being of, not only a different religion, but one that may have worshipped multiple Gods.
In a nutshell, there is no evidence, not even as far back as the times of Moises of God ever imposing a mandate for organization. Being organized makes sense, sure. It was logic and common sense what drove the logic behind such decision but never does the bible showed that God approved of it in a manner that such requirement would be deemed necessary for deliverance or salvation, as it is portrayed today by the WT
Does anyone have any other bible based thoughts for or against it? Taken from the perspective as if you were trying to discuss this with a JW.

Elders now ORDERED by the Org to fleece the sheep
by The Searcher inthe org is now demanding money from the witnesses, via the latest letter sent to elders regarding the circuit's excess funds.
succeeded in getting elders everywhere to hand over their own congregation's "excess funds" - now their circuit's bank balances are going to be plundered.. the spineless and subservient elders will cooperate without a whimper, because they're afraid of losing their little bit of power which the org has bestowed upon them.
(john 11:48).

Don't mean to disrupt the discussion or offend anyone. Is just that I am getting ready to show this letter to someone and I want to make sure.
Do we know the letter is legit? What convinces you personally?

The Watchtower is not invincible
by Coded Logic indespite claims to the contrary, there's no guarantee the watchtower will be around in a few decades time.
and it seems to me there's ever mounting evidence that the opposite may well be true.
but it's not just that recruitment is down and their defectors are up.

Don't forget, even though God did not miraculously protected them, there are Branch Davidians still living in the old compound in Waco, who still believe David Koresh was for real.
