It means nothing to them, it's total crap. It's what they preach but obviously don't practice. They show "love" when it suits their purpose, it's a pitch, a phony and deceiving selling point. What they really mean is kiss our ass and blindly follow us and we'll "love" you. Question us or stir up shit and beware of the consequences. We wont play with you anymore.

What does it really mean to "have love among yourselves"?
by micheal inif you ask any active witness most will say they are the only true religion because they have love among themselves.
but not going to war and killing another jw or going anywhere in the world and getting a free meal is fine but it does not constitute a true love among themselves.. forgotten is all the backstabbing, all the varying statuses within themselves and the never ending criticism that they have within themsleves.
never mind if a person becomes publicly reprooved, not disfellowship, but reproved they are still basically shunned and looked down upon.

Do you miss being part of something big?
by sleepy in.
at one time i was one of "gods chosen people", part of a special group of people who had exclusive access to hidden truths about the earth and its people.. now of cource i realise i'm just like everyone else and all the puzzles are still there.. kind of miss that feeling sometimes..

Piph, you're hilarious! Good thinking. As for missing being part of something big.....NO WAY. In fact, after the meetings I'd feel drained and really stressed out. I felt like I never belonged. I felt lost. I wasn't part of the world, yet I wasn't really part of the organization....at least that's I felt inside. Now, I'm part of the world and having a blast making up for alll that lost time. "WWWOOOOOOO" As Ric Flair would say.
Yes I'm a wrestling fan.

How many of you went to the elders when you / someone did something wrong ?
by run dont walk ini've read a lot of threads of late, where people stated when they did something wrong they would go the elders the next day and confess.. i find this truly bizzare !!!.
okay, maybe i didn't have a conscience as a jw, i did alot of things wrong, but, that would be the f--kin' day i would go to the elders and confess anything.
i would never tell those old goots anything, because then they would have something to hang over you for a long time.

I never went to the elders to confess anything, not that there was anything to confess. But an elder did come to me once asking for me to spy for him. I went to school with a guy from my congregation, and I guess this elder had something against his family or something and asked me to keep a close eye on him. I was about 16 years old at the time. I told him that I nver see him at school and couldn't help him......that bastard.

How many want out?
by ignored_one inhow many jws are there currently in the wt who want out but are held back by things they feel they can't control?
i hear posters say that if they're still jws then they must believe it.
what about the people whose whole family are jws and don't have any outside friends to turn to or for whatever reason are relying on their jw family for financial help and know that if they expressed doubts they would be cut off no questions asked.

I completely and totally agree, it's near impossible. That's their trump card I think. You're cut off from the world in a sense. The only people in your life are JW's, if you leave you're all alone, literally. You have to be a really strong person to be able to handle that. I've seen so many cases of people who leave, then come crawling back. They say it's because they faltered and now realize that this is the truth bla bla bla...but the truth is that they're alone and can't cope with that. Being free of an all consuming lie is worth the loneliness.

Piph, I did exactly that. I was in the Spanish congregation. I got married I think because we felt all we had was eachother. We felt the same way about the JW's, we both wanted out so it somehow led to our going out together and eventually getting married. Right after our marriage, we "moved" to the English congregation, but never really went. We tapered off our attendance little by little. The Spanish elders eventually caught on and came to visit us but after a few visits realized it was futile. Now we're divorced and I'm LIVING IN SIN with a worldy man whom I completely adore. Long Live Freedom. Good luck, I hope you break free successfully.

I hated preaching, mostly because I'm very shy...but the memory that stands out the most in my mind is when I was paired up with my best friends mom. We went to this door and the man was a religious fanatic. I don't remember what religion he practiced but suffice it to say, he called the lady I was with a whore, saying she was a pagan, the devil's bride - all because she was wearing makeup. Then he grabbed me by the shoulders and started shaking me and said something like..."but you're still young and innocent, you can still be saved let me teach you the real way of the lord...." Keep in mind I was a young teenager. My preaching partner was struggling with him to make him let me go. She was really rattled. It's actually funny now when I look back at the situation.

My "best friend" growing up in the congregation was the daughter of an elder. This made her popular among people our age, and it also meant I got the inside scoop on everything. She somehow seemed to know everything that was going on, and sometimes actually went through her dad's papers to know more, and of course she had a really big mouth.......
