I don't think that Jesus meant that "you will be with me in paradise today" as that would have been wrong as Jesus stayed in the grave for the better part of 3 days and wasn't in paradise the day that He died. So that may have been one of the few times the WTBTS got it right. But then again, He may have been using a figure of speech to let the criminal know that his repentant attitude assured his a place in paradise. I'm not sure what happens to the "soul" upon death. Some scriptures read like it "rests" in the grave until being resurrected others read like it returns to God. It doesn't really matter that much to me- I trust that God will take care of me in the way that is most appropriate to Him. I don't like to get hung up on little or fuzzy details that may not make much or any difference in the ultimate outcome of my existence and where I will be.

Christian book distributors has an on-line website that has a chart you can access to check which bibles are the most accurate, closest to word for word and thought for thought, to paraphrases and the Amplified and NASB are considered the most accurate on the chart, the New Jerusalem around the middle and The Message way over on the other end of the chart. KJV is about halfway between New Jerusalem and NASB. There are quite a few bible translation rated. I don't know who does the ratings or what criteria they use. Crossings, the Christian book club has the same chart. They are not in any way connected to Christian Book Distributors. Maybe there is a common supplier of the chart. Both can be accessed on the web. Christian book distributors is:www.cbd.com Crossings is: www.crossings.com I have bought many bilbes and stuff from CBD. They have great bargains.

Killer God & His Body Count
by dh indoes anyone know the exact number of people recorded as being killed by god in the bible?
not those killed by old age or illness or the acts of genocide that aren't given a death toll figure (like the flood), i wondered what the body count was for those acts of genocie that do have a documented death toll, or kill figure (god sent an angel to kill 100,000 etc).. anyone any ideas?.

I don't know but I can guarantee you it doesn't rate a 1 on the scale of 1-10 when compared to 20th century body count piled up by those (formerly) wonderful godless, atheistic, socialist, communist states. All told it is conservatively estimated that @100,000,000 people were conveniently exterminated for various reasons or no reasons at all by those icons of atheism- Stalin, Mao, Lenin, Hitler, Pol Pot, and other minor tyrants and dictators. But then I guess if you're not killed by God it doesn't really count.

You can buy a farm with some buildings (@30 acres), sometimes with a nice house for @$100,000.00 in rural Mississippi and Louisiana. This usually includes trees ready to harvest for making lumber. In southern Mississippi and Louisiana not too far from New Orleans you can buy a house,3-4 bedroom, brick,2 baths, garage, fireplace and a large lot or an acre of ground for @$100,000.00. Mississippi is one of the country's best kept secrets. It had earned a horrible reputation for what happened in the 60's but has grown way beyond the type of hatred and racial animosity it was known for in the past. More middle class and prosperous blacks are moving back "home" to the deep south states than anywhere else. And we welcome them gladly. No everything is not perfect, and yes there are still jerks around who judge people by the color of their skin but these people are getting harder and harder to find. Property taxes in La. are non existent if the property is valued at less than $100,000.00 by law in the La. Constitution. In Mississippi you'll pay @ $500-$2,000.00/yr in property taxes, depending on how close you live to "big" cities. Utilities are generally cheaper than up north- doesn't get too cold here. Propane or natural gas heat is @$100.00/month during the coldest months of Jan and Feb. During the summer, from May to late Oct., you can be sure that you'll pay about the same every month for electricity for your air conditioner.

......... The appearance of the new variant of CJD (nv-CJD or v-CJD) in several younger than average people in Great Britain and France has led to concern that BSE may be transmitted to humans through consumption of contaminated beef. Although laboratory tests have shown a strong similarity between the prions causing BSE and v-CJD, there is no direct proof to support this theory. Furthermore, BSE has never been found in the United States, and importation of cattle and beef from countries with BSE has been banned in the United States since 1989 to reduce the risk that it will occur in this country. Many people are concerned that it may be possible to transmit CJD through blood and related blood products such as plasma. Some animal studies suggest that contaminated blood and related products may transmit the disease, although this has never been shown in humans. If there are infectious agents in these fluids, they are probably in very low concentrations. Scientists do not know how many abnormal prions a person must receive before he or she develops CJD, so they do not know whether these fluids are potentially infectious or not. They do know that, even though millions of people receive blood transfusions each year, there are no reported cases of someone contracting CJD from a transfusion. Even among people with hemophilia, who sometimes receive blood plasma concentrated from thousands of donors, there are no reported cases of CJD. While there is no evidence that blood from people with sporadic CJD is infectious, studies have found that infectious prions from BSE and vCJD may accumulate in the lymph nodes (which produce white blood cells), the spleen, and the tonsils. These findings suggest that blood transfusions from people with vCJD might transmit the disease. The possibility that blood from people with vCJD may be infectious has led to a policy preventing people in the United States from donating blood if they have resided for more than 3 months in a country or countries where BSE is common. ..............This was taken from the National Institute of Health. Also an orthropedic surgeon told me that there has been a few cases of people getting CJD from the ground up bones used in surgery to graft or glue into damaged bones; this is done freq'ly for hip surgeries and large bone breaks like the femur. In the late 70's I worked in a lab(before I became a nurse) and a pathologist in our group got CJD from doing an autopsy on someone who died and was undiagnosed before autopsy. The tissue samples(brain) he handled were "fixed" in formailn for sampling but apparently formalin and formaldehyde DO NOT KILL the prion. This is a very deadly organism. Good thing that it is not easily transmitted as far as can be determined.

I do not believe in demon possession. I'm sorry if I led you to believe that. I am talking about people who have something that makes us human, "missing". I don't know any other way to put it.

That's true. Now you can get cow's blood transfused (Hemopure) and have a chance of getting CJD from mad cow blood. Seriously tho, it is true. Many advances in surgical techniques and rethinking old transfusion policies have taken place because of the JW's position on blood and now many people who are not JW's refusing blood for health reasons.

I have never been a person who especially feels influenced or targeted by "demons". However, I have met some people in my life who absolutely make my skin crawl. As a nurse, I had to spend a month training in a mental hospital as part of my course. There was a man there who made me want to pick up and run screaming from the room every time I saw him. He had the "deadest" eyes I have ever seen on a human being. You know- when you look at them they are blank, vacant, dead. It was like there was nothing human in there. Since then I have met 2 or 3 people in the world who have the same kind of eyes. Absolutely devoid of anything human. What is even creepier is when these people smile. The smile is like a pasted on simile of what they think a smile should look like but the dead eyes combined with the pasted smile is horrific. Have any of you ever come across this type of person in your lives? I am NOT a superstitious person by any stretch of the imagination. Don't believe in ghosts, possession, etc. But I do think that there are some people in this world who are not like the rest of us- it's like something is missing and they have learned how to play the part of a whole human being. I don't know any other way to put it.

If I am not mistaken didn't almost all of the original 12 apostles suffer violent deaths due to their belief in and preaching about Jesus? Didn't Paul? I don't know about you, but I can't imagine anyone WILLINGLY dying for something they KNEW to be a hoax or fable. Would you be willing to die for a fable or a hoax? I don't think I'd have the courage to die for something that I KNEW to be true since I'm pretty much a gutless person who would do just about anything to avoid being tortured or killed. I REALLY don't like pain.
