During the Kennedy years of 62 and 63 the budget deficit was 9% and 5% of total budget. What space projects Kennedy proposed was considered "visionary" and EVERYBODY jumped on board including the adoring press at that time . When Johnson started the war on Poverty (that effectively impoverished 14,000,000 people) the budget dificit was 15% of the total budget. But it was for a "worthy" cause so nobody cared. The budget deficit this year is 5% of the total budget. We have had deficit spending for 55 of the last 60 years. So why the big squawk now? I am no Bush fan- think he is too liberal but I do try to be fair in my assessments of him compared to all of the other presidents when it comes to the budget and fiscal matters. Where has all of this sudden concern for budget deficits come from? No one has cared for the last 60 years that we spend more than we take in, except us radical right wing "nuts". I got my numbers from the U.S. Gov. They have gov budget records since 1790 on line.

Is the US spending more money than they have?
by JH inwe all know that the usa is a superpower, or should i say the only superpower, but even so, where do they get the money to do so much around the world.
they send their army across the planet to wage war,at a very hight price.
each cruise missile or jet fighter costs millions, and then they say they still have the money to rebuild the country.

Bed wetting?
by got my forty homey? inany one in here who was raised as a jw ever have a problem with bed wetting growing up?

It is a genetic problem, usually passed on from fathers to sons. Has something to do with the nerve signal transmission to the bladder which usually clears up when boys reach puberty around 12. There really is nothing that can be done except to outgrow it. Ask your fathers if they or their brothers had the same problem. Many people, especially men, don't like to admit that they had that problem. And DON"T shame or redicule your kids who have it- it really is NOT their fault.

Did God create man to live forever?
by shotgun indubs always point back to genisis as a last resort and say ....well he created them to live forever, it was his original purpose.. where does it say that?.
genisis says that they were to multiply and fill the earth not that they would live forever.
if they were to live forever what was the tree of life for?.

Yes. The fact that geneticists have identified certain genes that turn other genes on and off that regulate cell repair. In theory, if they could decode the regulatory mechanisms that command the switchings they could "tell" cells to repair forever. As it stands now they do not know how to turn off the genes that tell other genes to stop repairing- hence we have aging and death. They are confident that they will be able to decode these mechanism in this century. Frankly, the thought of living another 100 years or indefinitely AND HAVING TO WORK THE WHOLE TIME is quite dismaying to me. The retirement age will be pushed back until you'll never be able to retire.

Yes I do!!!!!!! I wish I was there in the snow with that beautiful little kid enjoying it. Unfortunately, waaaaaaaay down here in the DEeeeeeep south we only get it about every 10 years and you have to run out and grab it up and put it in the freezer before it melts. Then you can look at your frozen snow ball for the next 10 years to remind yourself what snow looks like.

Any church, especially the Catholic Church. It'd be sort of like a vampire being exposed to light.

Witnesses coming Saturday... I need HELP!!!!
by Globetrotter ini got into a rather heated discussion this morning with my unbaptised but raised jehovah's witness wife.
we discussed so many things: feb 1 watchtower article on 607 and 1914, the un, beth sarim, blood, god's mouthpiece here on earth, etc.
this was yet another attempt on my part to try to plant a seed of doubt.

What are the WTBTS's biggest lies?
by outbutnotdown ini've been out for about 10 years and, to be honest, i have begun to worry less and less about what that org.
but in eman's recent post, "you have one shot", sirona mentioned about all the lies that the wtbts have told.
i have read c of c, but my memory is fading on what some of the more blatant lies that i recall from that book and other articles.. just in case i have an encounter with a jw who may actually be considering leaving but wants more support/reasons to leave, can people help me by refreshing my memeory on the biggest lies that they have told, that would catch their attention the quickest?

Would You Give Blood To Someone Against Their Wishes?
by minimus inthis subject came up with my mother yesterday.
she is in her late 70's.
she adamantly refuses blood.

No. As a nurse in a critical care unit I have been faced with that situation. I refused to go against my patients wishes re the transfusion of blood and requested that that patient be transferred to another nurse's care who did not have a problem doing so, after I got into an arguement with the family members. In the instance of a child, hospitals have lawyers who will not hesitate to go before a judge and get a court order forcing transfusion for little ones. Luckily, I have never had to face that situation as I do not do children's critical care. I also have a problem with family members who refuse to honor their parents or loved one's wishes regarding mechanical ventilation or extra-ordinary measures to prolong one's life. Forcing "life saving" treatments on people who have no wish to avail themselves of these measures is cruel and inhumane. There is nothing more heart breaking than having to care for someone who is tied down to a bed (to keep them from pulling all of the equipment off and out) with tubes stuck in every orifrice imaginable, pleading with their eyes for you to stop, when the sedation wears off or they regain temporary consciousness. Luckily not many of these people are aware that they are being tortured during their last days on this earth, at the requests of their "loved ones". Many a night I have prayed to God to "speak" to the family and allow them to see that dying is not the worst that can happen to someone. Dying by inches is a horrible way to die and no one should be forced to have to die this way so that some family member can assuage his or her guilt over real or imagined neglectful behavior on the family members part.

You Have One Shot.
by Englishman inyou're out somewhere, shopping maybe or in a restaurant or bus queue, whatever.. you've not been to the meetings for a couple of years, you are now an inactive person.
you might even have da'd yourself or got df'd.. you suddenly realise you are facing or stood next to someone that you know is a jw.
you also know that they know that you were once a jw too.. the person greets you and starts up a conversation with you.
