We suggest that the field overseer consider making arrangements for group witnessing on weekends, during worldly holiday periods, such as "Thanksgiving" and "Christmas," etc., for the coverage of such territories.

Ya know if some jws came to my house on turkey day I'd probally feed them - breast or dark meat?

I'm glad you are thinking ahead for your kids. That is so thoughtful. Our school had a whole day (when the kids were little) and mom's came into help, they made a complete dinner! Turkey, potato's, pies, the works! They even made their own butter! It took the better part of two days. Imagine the poor little jw kid not being able to go into the school kitchen and helping! ( don't ask why but to be able to really cook in the school kitchen with all that stainless steel is a big deal to the kids!!) As for the 'hand turkeys' everybody makes when little in school, how harmful could that really be to ones spirituality? It's a piece of construction paper and maybe a few feathers!

Dude, are you that immature that you have to be spoonfed how to conduct yourself on an upcoming Slursday Thursday?

I do not have to be spoon fed. I want to do what is right in JEHOVAHS eyes, so I NEED to make sure.

Do your own thing, anything you want. Or do what most of us do - get sloppy drunk, watch bad football, eat way too much and pass out in the living room.

I do not WANT to do my OWN thing. I want to do Gods thing! Getting sloppy drunk is something that displease Jesus and Jehovah.

What does it matter what the history of thanksgiving is? What does it mean to you and your family? It's a time to get together, enjoy some food, and be thankful for the things you have. If it means something else to someone else, how does their thinking influence Thanksgiving's meaning to you? Do you think Jehovah wouldn't want you to enjoy time with your family and be thankful for what you have?

We always had turkey on that day.

We had been invited to dinner by other brothers and sisters and had turkey on thanksgiving, then went to the meeting.

    Defd, I commend your openness.

Unfortunately the Society is pretty clear that Thanksgiving is a worldly holiday. The quotes in this thread are but a few of Thanksgiving or generic holiday mentionings in the literature.

Could you explain to your local elder body that you celebrated Thanksgiving? Any elder body I've served on would counsel you to think more theocratically in the future and let it go at that.

This was one holiday I was never able to see anything wrong with, especially when other witnesses were asking us to come over for dinner and all the fixins rather than go do the exact same thing with family that lived hours away.

And you need to look in the WT to find out what is right in his eyes? Crack open your bible and see what it says about Thanksgiving.

On a side note, my old PO told me that it was conscience issue. He is also Lansing's City Overseer.

All I know is I have been doing allot of thinking lately about some things associated with the truth. Dont get me wrong, I am not having doubts as to whether or not it is the truth. I am just trying to figure out what I am going to do about the apparent situations within the ORGANIZATION. I need a break. Maybe Ill go to Michigan and visit one of my child hood friends that I grew up with from infancy.
