What one sentence could you say to a JW that would stick with them?

Stevenyc, love that statemen. If it could be shortened a little bit, it would make a great skeptic's bumper sticker. Instead of the Jesus Fish what would we use, a silhouette of the "thinker"?

Never believe what some person or organization tells you to be true, especially if it controls your life, without checking the reference for yourself

When others tell you how to live, check their references!

I wish I had the "magic bullet" that would blast away the myth and pseudo knowledge that makes up the WT doctrine . they have done pretty convincing job of 'blinding the minds ' of the flock.. [ rather like the sheep in Orwell's "Animal Farm " who would just bleat "Four legs good, two legs bad" whenever a contradiction arose in what their leaders told them]

I am in e mail conversation with another ex elder who is still a faithful witness. So far i have hit him with enough reasoning questions to make any thinking man stop in his tracks, but to no avail. The last resort will be the actions of the WTS, ie, UN scandal, contradictions and deliberate misquotes . Let's see if that has any effect

The last time my mom phoned me, she ended up badgering about going to meetings For Jehovah™ so that we would have a chance at being in the Paradise™, and to stop carrying a grudge against individual JWs who had behaved very unkindly and unlovingly toward my family during a very difficult time in our lives. There were a couple of things I said that day that must have stung, because she has never phoned again.

    1. If I were a member of any other religion and you were calling at my door, and I described all the horrible things that were done to me by people in my congregation, you would tell me that it proves that there is NO LOVE in that particular church and that it did not represent God; how can you now expect me to just ignore that and carry on in that organization, just because it happened among Jehovah's Witnesses?
    2. I would rather spend the rest of my life happy and not ever setting foot in a Kingdom Hall ever again and die at Jehovah's own hands at Armageddon™, than spend one miserable minute in Paradise™ with only Jehovah's Witnesses.

i have always liked GBL's: "We evolved from apes."

this opens the door for discussion with science-minded individuals.

also, i would like to just say to one of my old friends: "I have two words for you, and I'll leave you in peace: 'Cognitive Dissonance'"

This is something typical I'd say: "I believe in Jehovah God, the Bible he gave us (39 + 27) and nothing else matters." (close door)

    and/or-

And then I might quote them a Scripture that Jesus said; John 4:23 NWT "Nevertheless, the hour is coming, and it is now, when the true worshipers will worship the Father with spirit and truth, for, indeed, the Father is looking for suchlike ones to worship him." I then might say (if necessary) in that whole paragraph, there's nothing mentioned of having membership of a religious group. I believe that by arguing points, at times, it's important to indicate to them the whole paragraph of the topic made -- just to make sure it doesn't sound like you are taking things out of context. (have the door partially closed.)
