My staunch JW sister who never wants to debate JW doctrine once brought her 2 yr old granddaughter to my mothers house while I was also visiting that afternoon, she wanted to show me what little "Jennifer" could say, Jennifer proceeded to coin the JW phrase, "the end is near, uncle, you better start going to meetings" or something like that, which I'm positive her grandmother trained her to say, I remarked back as I was going out the door, "wow you guys sure do start to brainwash them early don't you?" and left. Havent heard from either since.
What one sentence could you say to a JW that would stick with them?

mj mouse, can you imagine the follow-up conversation with the two year old?
"Grandma, what's a brain wash?"
"Nevermind."

Here's one I used on a JW exiting this discussion board. Haven't heard from her since, either. Miss her.
"Prisons have Watchtowers too."

"Jesus sought out apostates to follow him. (John 9:34, 35)"
I don't get it...I looked it up...it doesn't say that.

I said this to my mother once. Her answer? 'Don't think too much. Just believe it. That's what faith is.'
Those words are the essence of the foundation of the majority of the mainstayers beliefs. Just think of what proportion of the dubs have become to dulled in their senses and own power of reason to entrust the "FDS" so completely. I'd say it must be a huge proportion.
Gosh, I wish I could remember some of the classic lines that had a real and lasting effect on me, there have been plenty, but I've moved on and now just look back and laugh (whilst shaking my head). It was usually the subtle comments of complete ignorance that really stuck. frog x

upside/down, if you read the context (9:1 through 10:18) you will get it. The WTS, and the rest of the known Christian world, teaches that the man was expelled.
It was the third degree of expulsion, the most severe kind of expulsion the Jews could use. Most of the people expelled that way died from starvation. Jesus sought the man out, after he was disfellowshipped for apostasy by the "earthly organization" of his day.

Here's what I would say:
"If you really do believe it's the truth, there should be absolutely no excuses; you should be doing more to follow the governing body and spread the word."
Rationale for question: My hunch is the JWs are not as committed to the religion as earlier generations of JWs were and this sort of statement "gets" to them because, rather than questioning their religion, it questions the depth of their personal commitment to it.

"My mother joined your religion, and it destroyed our family. I know everything I need to know about you people".
Might work, and it is actually true.
