  Hello Cordelia,

  I cannot emphasize this strongly enough: They lie about almost everything.

  They practice deliberate deception when quoting outside sources. They practice deliberate deception when retelling their own history. They engage in basic logical fallacies in issue after issue of the Watchtower and Awake! magazines. They demonstrate that they care more about advancing their own doctrine than the actual facts in their literature. There is precious little of anything approaching truth in the WTS.

  If you're unsure, take the time to research things carefully. If there is one sure thing in this world, it is that the Witnesses are not what they claim.

  If I were you, I would start by reading Ray Franz' Crisis of Conscience. This will give you a very good place to start.

  Of course there's another, more blunt, way of looking at the situation.

  Eventually your parents will die (with a high degree of probability of this happening in your lifetime), while you have to live with your decisions. As will your children, your childrens' children, your childrens' childrens' children...

  Ultimately, while we might consider the welfare of those we love, we also have to consider our own happiness. What are you actually responsible for? Your parents' happiness? Or rather, are they not in some measure responsible for your happiness? Who bears the greater responsibility in that regard?

  Look to your own progeny and ask the question again, for context...

  What is truth?

  I believe that truth is congruent with reality; that it confirms the evidence of my senses.

  Is there anything in your dub experience that you have found congruent with observable reality?

  Do the JWs hold any UNIQUE beliefs that are demonstrably true?

  You must make your own decision.

  Anyone that has been reading this board or carefully studying the jw history through info on the net and in books soon realises that this religion (more properly not a religion but a multinational big business operating under the guise of religion)has no stable idea as to what the truth is and is systematically and cunningly (artfully)lying to its members on a wide range of issues.
  
  Did you ever see in them any attitude of christian compassion or love or any real depth of spirituality? All human religious organisations are corrupt and the WTS is no exception there are just a few genuine individual christians in these organisations here and there. At least in more traditional ones they do not seek to rigorously control their members lives.

  I was born and raised in it so I didnt question it until I was about 10 or 11. Until that point, I just believed what my parents told me.

  Once I started questioning, the whole belief structure collapsed in a few days. There is not the remotest chance in hell that this belief system even "approximates" the truth, about anything!

  What keeps people undecided and clinging is fear. Fear for your eternal salvation. Remember Jesus said whoever seeks to save his soul will lose it. It's because you fall victim to men's teachings to save yourself. Let go, have total trust in your Creator and don't worry about being wrong. He's not killing anybody!

  I'd be interested in tearing apart the no-birthday thing. I like it because it's easy and fairly unique to JW's. Would you be willing to bat it around a bit in a friendly debate?
