    Hi,

I've gained a lot of weight recently. I really need to lose some. Now, my diet isn't the problem as such....its the excersize part. I suppose the only problem with food I've had is that I've stuck to some crazy diets which have made me lose weight but then I've gained it all back when I started to eat "normally" again.

How do you work excersize into your routine? I've started walking the dog on long walks but going as fast as I can so that I get out of breath. I don't want to join a gym because there is nothing more boring to me than that. I like excersizing at home, but I'm sick of workout videos.

Help! At this rate I'm going to be massive! I can't even post my weight because I'm too ashamed! I am in UK size 14 though and I'm the biggest now than I've ever been. I just LONG to be slimmer so that I can go shopping and wear "anything" again!!!!

You probably understand the very simple formula that goes: energy out must exceed energy in.

Try wearing a pedometer all day and setting goals re how many steps you'll take. I've recently taken up cycling to work. But make diet changes slowly. I found it helped to cut out carbs at night..

I have a pedometer somewhere, I'll try and fish it out.

It seems so simple doesn't it? Energy in should be less than energy out. Why is it so bloody difficult then?

    Hi Sirona.

Did you know I lost a third of my weight before I first ever met you? I was about 19 stone. I did most of it through diet and very little exercise. I did eventually join a gym but that was to build my muscles back up because I lost weight too quick.

I know a man has different make up to a woman (I mean body make-up not lip stick)... but my philosophy was to change my habits and not choose a diet which I could not live with for the rest of my life. And what I did on the diet was look at every aspect with the Tesco motto "every little helps" in mind. It worked for me.

    Ballistic,

What do you eat each day?

What things did you eliminate? Do you eat smaller portions?

How did you fight hunger or the urge to eat that little bit more?

Don't know much about your daily routines - but that is an area that can be used.

If you ride a bus or PT is there an area of the route you could walk instead? Or can you take the stairs instead of an elevator? Can you walk at lunch and breaktimes instead of sitting and eating - maybe carry a small lunch you can eat on the park bench during your walk?

These little routine changes have worked for some.

    I looked at everything.

Coffee - I dropped all the sugar. Coke went to diet coke. Beer got swapped for wine watered down with soda water. Eating in the restaurant at lunch time became four slices with something other than cheese filling, late night snacking was eradicated altogether, breakfast a boiled egg. If I was shaking with hunger when I got in from work, tomatoe juice (bloody Mary without the alcohol). Dinner meat and two veg with gravy allowed. Then... as I realised this was drastic I allowed myself to add to all of that as much fruit and veg as I liked, to make those plate fulls of dinner to actually look massive. Then I went back and added it all up and indeed the calories came to under 1800 a day.

When I hit my target weight, I realised I could do some damage if I carried on, so had to add some things back in (unfortunately I chose beer as one - probably a bad decision LOL) But the original intention of the diet had worked which was... not to choose a fad diet which you do for a period of time. I had changed my life. I was in a new routine. And I still eat my four slices of bread at lunch time and meat and vegetables for dinner to this day.

    Decrease the Input of calories

    Increse the Output of energy

It works for me, doesn't mean it works for everybody though.

Drink WATER between meals to help reduce hunger. You should carry a water bottle of at least 1/2 litre around with you, and preferably drink its entire capacity at least twice during the day. A lot of what people perceive as hunger is actually thirst.

I cant stick to the one diet for too long , so I change often.

I lost 28 lb since last summer but gained back 12 just recently, now Im losing again

I absolutley HATE exercising, but my hubby bought me a elliptical or cross training machine. It is really good and doesnt make your knees or ankles hurt

I try to do it for 30 minutes everyday then take the dog out for a 30 minute walk. I dont get around to it sometimes but I know it does help

Oh and I go on the wagon, that really helps
