One of the things that helps me is to eat on a small plate. Visually it seems like you have a full plate.

hi sirona... the posters have some great advice...i did not read all of them so hopefully i have not repeated them

The word DIET must be eliminate from your vocabulary. Replace it with LIFESTYLE CHANGE. Why? A diet is temporary, a lifestyle change is permanent. Do you want to permanently loose the weight? Then you know what you need to do.

Where does hunger come from? Additives and chemicals in the processed foods. These have been added so that you are never full.

Do a detox if you body can handle it. PM me and I will send the ultimate body detoxer/cleanser. If you do not get rid of these additives/chemicals from your cells a lifestyle change will be more difficult and you are bound to give up.

Also don't use the word failure. Eliminate that word from your vocabulary. Instead of seeing the failure as a failure, see it as an outcome that you don't prefer and see what could be done different nextime. The whole lifestyle change starts in the mind, you need to talk to yourself using words that empower and not ones that disempower you. Replace all negatiive words with positive ones. Don't let your mind speak to you...you need to tell your mind off sometimes.

I wanted to add that I do a lot of cardio on the exercise bike and treadmill. What makes it enjoyable is watching a good movie, listening to a book on tape.

The cool thing about recorded books is you can listen to them anywhere you choose to exercise. I love 'em.

When at a restaurant, VOW to leave 1/2 of your plate still there. I don't (can't) do it, but my spouse does and has kept as thin as when we first met.

I did try "Fit for Life". It worked the best. My old boss swore by it. He used to be very heavy, and has remained a very slim man ever since - something like 15+ years. Basically, it's all fruits in the morning (cantaloupes, strawberries, watermelon, oranges, etc), lunch and dinner are either a veggie + protein or a veggie + carb. Never, never, never are carbs & protein allowed together. When I did it, I also drank skim milk &/or sugar free yogurt with each meal.

I also tried "South Beach" I lost alot of weight, but my gall bladder area hurt from lack of carbs.

As far as excercising - biking or swimming or farm work. The best is going elk hunting for a week - guaranteed 15 pounds gone.

    What a Coincidence,

Yes, you are right, it is about lifestyle change. Ballistic is the shining example there because he has maintained his slim body really well.

I liked someone's suggestion about 100 calories a day less. I think I could do maybe 200 cals a day less without much pain, just by choosing lighter lunches etc.

Yesterday I had two slices of toast with butter on (eek...butter!!!) and then I took my mother out for lunch and had a chicken tortilla wrap with salad. I didn't think that was too bad. Then later, my husband was working late so didn't want any dinner, so I found myself eating two more slices of toast for dinner. I know, I know, you're all going to cry! "Don't do that! It will mess up your metabolism!" but actually I didn't feel I needed more.

My downfall is that I love cooking very much and I like to put nice food out for my husband. Therefore, I will make his favorite: Mexican-de-Sirona (LOL). This involves chicken in fajita sauce with peppers and tomatoes, wrapped in tortillas (two for me, three for him) and COVERED in cheese and baked in the oven, then served with sour cream and salsa on the side

Then at other times I'll make him a big meal and tend to put out a big portion for me. I think if I can stop giving myself large portions it will help enormously. When I make pasta bake, we both go back for more, so we both have more than one plateful!

He is an excersize fanatic, he excersizes every single day and he has a job where running / physical stuff is sometimes involved (definately lots of walking all day) so he keeps slim quite well despite what he eats.

My job on the other hand is sitting all day (seeing customers regarding their finances). I get home late some nights too. Now the weather is improving though I think I will more likely get in more excersize at night.

Someone mentioned swimming, I LOVE swimming but locally the pools are YUK. I'm very very fussy about where I'll swim and I hate dirty changing rooms! There is a gym very near my house which has a pool and although the pool is very small I could potentially use it for swimming up and down (its about 30 feet wide), but that would mean joining the gym and historically I've hated gyms. On the plus side, they have a jacuzzi and a sauna aswell!

Sirona (just ate two slices of toast and an egg)

How on EARTH could I leave half a plate at a restaurant. It feels so RUDE!

The chef would say "Madam, did you enjoy your food?" with a disappointed look on his face. LOL

    Is that an English thing?

Don't worry about it Sirona, a full plate of food in England is about half a plate in the US anyway.

I need to lose weight too.I don't like pasta or bread.I don't drink that much.Maybe once a month or less I will have a drink or two.I think my real down fall is fast food.I drive a taxi and I never seem to have food in my house.I don't eat a lot of fruit or veggies.I don't like them.I also only eat once or twice a day but when I do I eat a lot.I Iove beef.Steak is my fave.

I really do know what I eat is bad for me.But I have accepted I'm not meant to be a super model. My family is all over weight. But I would like to be healthyer than I am.I think a lot of my problem is lack of exersise. But I don't like to sweat.I love swimming but I live in Ohio and can only swim three months out of the year.Theres no indoor pool where I live at the moment but there building a ymca with a indoor pool. It's not open yet but I'm thinking about buying a membership when it opens.I alos work at night so I sleep durring the day.I work 12 hour shifts and when I get off I'm so tired that I can't even think.I also have a knee that is not good.I broke my back when I was 14.So exercise is painful for me.

I need to make me time and just do it.I'm ok with being a big girl.I have no problem meeting men.I just would like to be healthy. What do you Think I could od to help myself.Things that I haven't thought about.

    noni,

Sounds like you have your work cut out! I think your main considerations should be health. You need to help yourself so that you don't develop any serious health issues when you grow older.

I have heart disease in my family and my mother has always eaten healthy, but now she has bad angina.

Theres heart issues in my family as well.My Mom is currently in a nursing home because she is so overwheight she can't take care of her self anymore.I prommised myself I would never be like her.But it seems like I'm heading down the same path.I need to find a way to put the brakes on.I don't have anyone to exersise with.I would feel better working out with someone.

The one good thing is I don't have a car so if I go anywhere it involves walking. And I have normal blood pressure.I have gained a lot of weight since I started dirving a cab.Simply because fast food is so much easyer to get than cooking.I think I've gained 50 pounds since I started driving for a living.I have evened out and stopped gaining.I think I've even lost a little bit.Because I'm not at my place all the time.I'm at my bf house and he eats a lot healthyer that I do.I'm always happy to eat what ever he eats because he cooks for me.I spend at least three nights a week at his house.the rest I work.
