Hi Path, and welcome to JWD.

If you are certain that Jehovahs Witnesses only practice what is taught in the bible, ask your study conductor to show you, from the bible 'explicitly' where the practice are forbidding birthdays is.

Well.. I certianitly can not find a scripture that says you can not. Only two birthdays on in the bible and birthdays have Pagan roots anyway. Oh By the way... I want to kno
What happens after one gets baptised as a JW? Do they do the service before baptism? What would happen if I got Baptised?

Not true. Check out various translations of Job 1:4, they celebated birthdays.

In one of your posts on here, you said, "For it is written." Well the bible was written, it was rewritten by the JW's to mold it to what they wanted us to believe. They put words in the bible and changed things around and added things that shouldn't be in there.
Now tell me, is that the sort of religion that you want to serve? Its not about loving Jehovah, its about mind control and doing what they want you to do. Every religion around can profess that they are the one and only true religion, but sweetie, you have to realize that if God is a god of love, then why wouldnt he let everybody know its the right religion? Going door to door isn't doing that.
You have a lot to learn and a lot of questions to ask. And I know none of us are attacking you or trying to be rude in any way, but most of us have had to learn the hard way. So please go into learning about the "bible" and the "truth" with an open mind and open eyes because once they have you, its not good.

Baptisms generally take place at big conventions just before lunch. There is a talk about baptisms and then the baptism candidates are lead out to be baptised. The witnesses gathered are then told they can go for lunch and normally everyone gets up and goes to the pub goes to get something to eat. Some sit around and watch the people getting baptised but on general people are far more interested in getting something to eat.

The following Tuesday or Thursday depending on when your next service meeting is it will be announced from the platform that you are now a sister (its over and done with within 15 seconds). After the meeting those close to you will slap you on the back and tell you how happy they are for you and that will be it.

Jehovah's witness don't believe in giving glory to individuals so your baptism will be a very low key event. You'd end up thinking "was that it"

Do you love Jesus? Did He die for *you*?

Do you realise you are a sinner and require Jesus to be your go-between between you an Jehovah to get forgiveness?

Do you realise the JWs teach that you cannot have this vital and special relationship with Jesus?

Yes, once your study person feels you are confident and "know" enough, you'll be invited out on the work.

If you're baptised you'll be required to fill in a little form every month to let the JW Head Office know how long you spent in the ministry, how many publications you placed, and how many return visits or studies you went on. Your JW friend fills this form in about you.

Yo will be treated with suspicion if you ask too many questions.

Did Jesus tell His followers to keep these records? Doesn't Jehovah know *everything* already?

If you get baptised and you begin to believe something different about the Bible than the JWs currently teach, or you sin in some way, you can be thrown out, and your friends will not talk to you any more and will shun you. If any of your JW friends stops believing or sins, you would not be allowed to talk to them.

You would be disfellowshipped for coming to this website!

The JW beliefs also change over time. What you are being taught now could have an opposite teaching in 5 years time. If this belief changes to something you don't agree with you can't say. If you realise a JW belief goes against the Bible (like the teaching about your relationship with Jesus) you aren't allowed to tell anyone! You just have to teach a false teaching when you go door to door!!

well.. Jesus isn't that great. Not as great as Jehovah. They are not equal to eachother I mean. -- I know the JW stance on Jesus. Yes, I love Jesus... and yes he died for our sins. :) -- We all are sinners and all are imperfect

Well... Biblically speaking, he was. He created EVERYTHING. Check out the JW teachings on this.

The main difference between Jehovah and Jesus, as far as you're concerned, is that YOU don't fit in the club allowed to have a relationship with him. That's reserved for the 144000. Which is a shame if you are a CHRISTian.

You'll be required to do a minimum of 10 hours a month knocking on doors in all sorts of weather and in all sorts of places (including some not very nice areas)

If you fail to do at least 10 hours a month you will get into trouble with the Elders. If it is noticed by the brothers and sisters that you aren't very active in knocking on doors you will thought of as spiritually sick and people will avoid you.

Knocking on doors isn't as easy as it seems Elizabeth. At the moment you are all fired up with all the new stuff you have learnt and no doubt you want to get out and tell everyone. However not everyone is going to be as excited about this as you are. I've spent years having doors slammed in my face, I've been sworn at and abused to and I'm a big mean looking bloke! If the general public treated me like that how do they treat sisters?
