Ihaveasavior, There is a large auditorium (and that is what it is called on the Construction Documents) JWs distance themselves from any wording that sounds like a Church. There are no "Worship Services". There are "meetings".

There are no windows on Kingdumb halls because they want their followers to be kept in the dark!!

And oh my goodness it is VERY dark when all the lights are out!! During the COs visit, they showed a lame 'movie' about building kingdumb halls in 3rd world countries and turned out the lights. I tell ya, my cell phone nearly blinded me when I was texting thru the movie....

Please re-read Sir82's post. He said he's just yanking your chain...he even added a smiley. Witnesses have been asked about this before, and he was just telling you what he's been told about it. The organization never sent out an explanation to the rank and file...so some formed their own conclusions.

We know that the Amish for instance, do not allow photographs to be taken of them so as to prevent an idol being created.
As a way of reference, I lived outside an Amish and Mennonite community for 2 years. The men would not speak with me unless I wore a head cover and often times a woman would be sent out to speak with me. It is my understand that some Amish will allow for photos, they do not wish to have close ups of their face taken. If you ask their permission, they will often grant it if you assure them that you are not going to have a close up of their face.
A kingdom hall is a plain building that has seats like an auditorium. There is a stage with a podium and often times a table with chairs around it set to the side of the stage. Some halls have a smaller room in the back of the main, large open portion of the building which is used as a library. It holds many of their books for teaching and is sometimes used as a second room to hold smaller meetings.
Other then Mexico (various places thru out Mexico), I have never been to halls in 3rd world countries so as to know if their buildings have windows. However, I have traveled thru out Europe, Australia, Canada, the US and New Zealand. That I can recall, there were always windows in every hall I went to.
That being said, I would have to say based on my own experience, there are windows in JW's KHs.

As my faith encourages a gathering place, sancyuary, where all congregants gather to worship I now am faced with another question, Do you worship a Deity or writers f text?
I think most of Jehovah's Witnesses have far more reverence for their publishing corporation than they do for any deity. The meetings consist of reading, questions followed with canned answers, and plenty of repetition to aid in indoctrination. There is very little that goes on there that actually resembles worship.

P.S. Coffee, what do you mean by, "My own theory is that windows not only allow light in, but encourage people to look outside...not a good thing when the organization wants full attention..."
Since as you said, most in this forum are xjws, that means there must be some level of "free will", does this mean the "organization" has established a place where they have full control over their followers?
