Where I live, you are "lucky" if JWs call on you once a year. Only in a few areas would it be more often. But once a year might be too often for some. I would suggest getting a "no trespassing" sign since the congregations received a letter telling them to obey them or suffer the consequences without any help from the WTS. I know 2 JWs that disregarded a sign and were ticketed, over $200. They went to court but the judge only reduced the fine because it was their first time and warned the JWs that next time she would not reduce the fine. That put the fear into JWs around here. Money talks!

I was under the impression that at least in some areas the front door was considered public property. Or is that only if there is no sign present?

I may hate what they say, and how they say it, but I'll defend their right to do so to the end of my days.
Amen!! I also defend our rights to speak out publicly against them!!!!
It is such rights that many boys and men have died to protect. We might not like what they say - but this is a free country and we all deserve a voice - whether that priviledge is recognized by all or not. That is democracy.

round here mormons carry badge and wallet ID stating who they are and who theyre operating for, they told me they often get moved on by the police if someone reports them, they dont complain about it they just move on. they dont ask for donations towards cost of printing
whether they collect or not jws are registered charitys, but for some reason unlike mormons they dont carry id
and dont seem to have the same problem with being moved on by the police. yet theyre the ones screaming persecution.

so i'm just wondering with all the problems bogus charity callers are causing over here, why people who represent charities are not expected to carry ID stating who they volunteer for.
i did write and ask the charities commission but they didnt deign to reply.

approachng someone one time is NOT harrassment...persisting when it is unwanted or returning after one has been asked not to come back might be....
putting up a sign for yourself should be an effective deterrent...
commercial solicitation can be and is regulated....
making door to door non-commercial speech illegal is repugnant to a free and democratic society... (for those of you that said that the issues revolving around terrorism might make it easier to get laws passed, consider that banning free speech is exactly what the terrorists desire and practice in their own lands)..

Some of you act like you get knocked on your doors weekly or more often. When I was living in the states I would be lucky if they came by once every 6 months or so. I would get more non jws knocking in my door than jws. And all this talk about mormons or baptists wearing badges may be just some trying to sping things. I never remembered any baptists or mormons wearing any badges when they came thru my door. I would even confuse them as jws, only to find out when I talked to them that they were actually baptists.
Why stop there? Lets try and ban all public preaching and any sales or insurance people or anyone that goes door to door, that way we won't get bothered by anyone at anytime. Amazing, some of the hate goes so deep as to try and ban something that would be considered a non issue by most people. If you don't want to be bothered let them know not to call again or put up signs. Or how about not answering your door when they knock? I guess that's too hard to do and its easier to change the laws to ban it.

i can't speak for who you've seen on your door, but the mormons that have knocked on mine have been wearing badges with their names on stating theyre mormons and when i asked them about it, they showed me their wallet ID.
i've no idea and have never said baptists carry ID cos i've never come across one on my door. so i've never commented on those.
any charities that come knocking on my door also carry ID and check back numbers to authorise who they are (if they dont show that at the door its an indication theres something not quite kosher about them.) and so do any household services council workers or ultility pepes.
and yes i've had quite a few jws knock on my door in the last couple of years, the lady that came with the tract the other day even mentioned my new do not call notice on my front door and said it didnt apply to them.
and yeah i wouldnt mind banning nuisance cold callers from my door at all, regardless of religion or what theyre selling or collecting or market researching or begging.

Not once in my life have I seen a mormon or baptist or any other salesperson wear a badge when on my door. As long as we are banning annoying things that bother us, how about banning your post. It annoys me.

In fact, as they combed for converts here the other day - their conservative haircuts, white shirts, black suits, and lapel badges instantly identifying them as Mormons - Elder Vincent and Elder de Ligne were upbeat.
