Ohhhhhhhhhhhh!! I like it! I like it a-lot!! Lil...I knew there was a reason to follow you!
That's really interesting Lily!
I wondered how long the Watchtower could put up with its memorial partakers figures NEVER going down significantly.
It must be an awful embarrassment to them.
However, to be honest, I never trust any of the figures given by the Watchtower. There may be a possibility (to steal the Watchtower's much used phrase) that the real figure of memorial partakers is even higher than those given. Now that would be ALARMING to the Watchtower.
Ordinary dubs must discuss these figures as they seem to be a barometer to how close the end really is.
I remember a family barbecue, a few years before we stopped associating, and one pioneer JW asking about these figures and 'Why don't they ever go down if the end is approaching?' There was deathly silence as everyone contemplated their navels for a while and then the subject was changed by a couple of Elder cousins!
Even thinking about having been conned is too painful for the JWs! But I suspect the thought is entering the minds of quite a few now, especially those who have given up all of their life chances to serve the profitering book company.
The scripture that they used to back up the idea that there will have to be anointed around when Armageddon comes, the one about cutting time short or something, now applies to 1914! I'll try and get a scan sorted when I'm at home.
Thanks Zico,
Gill,
you are so right. The jdubs are getting so tired of hearing the same thing. The end is near, the end is close, it could be any day now. Many are leaving for they are so disgusted! And they can see that the WT's promises never come true. Many were questioning the numbers when I was still in. I've been out about 2 1/2 years now. I questioned the numbers in my DA'd letter, among other things. I challenged the elders to come by and give me answers to my questions about this issue and the others but they never did.
Even when my hubby started not attending but had not yet given his letter - they still stayed away. They are afraid of any real questions and especially if you use scripture and they cannot find the answers in the WT's for your questions.
About three months later, after my hubby gave in his letter, the two congregations received their apostate talks. They knew it was about me because I sent out my letter to all my friends. Thankfully I was able to help several out of the tower including my hubby, two kids, a close friend, my brother and sister in-law, and two other families who knew me.
Here is something interesting too, my hubby and I are noticing that although we live within walking distance to one of those KH's we NEVER see a JW out in service in our area and when you drive by on meeting nights - there is only a handful of cars in the lot. Yes, people are questioning and they WANT answers. Lilly
I can confirm that the elders at the cong I'm assigned to have been
on the hunt (since the last memorial) for those believing they're
anointed. Even 18 months ago, they were interrogating me on what I was
getting at with a comment I made on status and Ephesians 4:1-7.
That quote from the wt1/1/07 was already given. There's a QFR right
after it that also has some more to say about the remnant and their
status during the great tribulation.
Looks like the WTS is trying to both curb the increase in anointed
claimees but also account for the recent/future? influx of young
anointed to the GB.

Jezebel's is the name of an "adult" club in Wichita.
Why am I all of a sudden hearing "Girls, Girls, Girls" by Motley Crue?
The WTS is afraid the number of anointed now living will surpass the number of 144,000...and that JUST will NOT DO! I always had questions about the 144,000 when I was a JW....In 2000 years it seems the 144,000 would have been chosen before 1914 or 1935, it is such a small number compared to the population in that amount of time.. No one could answer that question.
I wonder what the number of partakers was last Memorial and it will be interesting to see what happens in the next couple of years, and if they manage to chop that over 8000 figure down a bit by 'eliminating' a few inconvenient partakers!
Lily,
Your story is interesting.
I was always curious about the anointed and how it could never be proven who was and who wasn't. I remember an arrogant anointed type years ago. Humility was not his strong point. He said that another person in the cong. who professed to be anointed "could not possibly be". I, of course, wondered to myself how one could say that about another when there is no proof if even THEY were - other than their boastful claim, of course!
In recent years, I have noticed their trend of trying to "discourage" new ones from claiming they are anointed and talking about them like they were nuts. I questioned one of the elders about it and he told me "the number is sealed and these people are mistaken, etc.....". At the time, his explanation sounded plausible. But now, I can understand that they have anxiety about this growing number of "upstarts" because it will throw their whole theology/chronology into a bigger mess than it already is. So they have to step on them fast!
