If there is a God, he is certainly not a micromanager.

He created and poof he was gone.

I have been thinking about this for a long time. It takes alot more thought and responsiblity to accept there is no God. Maybe that is why he was made up in the first place.

Okay, I think I have enough on the perspectives
of atheism. However, the question that lingers
in my mind is "were we born just to die?"

Thank you all for your viewpoints.

.."Born to Die?"..I see no evidence to the contrary..None..Nor any through out the coarse of history..On the other hand, who says we die?..Are we re-encarnated?..Do we go to heaven?..I don`t know.....And..I have no faith in the people that say they do...OUTLAW

We were born to live. Teach our children, make mankind better, enjoy our planet, learn, have fun, make love. I don't think whether we believe this is all there is should change anything. If anything we would embrace the life we have more dearly.

Think of how truely unselfish we would be ........if we learned how to be giving without a dangling carrot.

That is sooner or later what we're all going to do. I think the better question is, How can I really live?

For the record, I am not an atheist, so shall refrain from comment.

I think a philosophical breakthrough has just been made here on the JWD by my esteemed associate Mr. Outlaw! That is one belief I for one am prepared to live to defend! I do believe in beer! God.......not so much. LOL!

When God touches my life in the same way beer has, I'll be more than happy to reevaluate my position.

I'm not sure about god but I don't see how beleiving in him gives meaning to life. When I was an active JW they gave me a certain meaning but when I really thought about it the only goal in life, if we were supposed to live forever in paradise, is to enjoy life and worship god. Now take god out of the picture all you have left is, enjoy life. So wether we live for ever or not we still can enjoy life so I don't see anything wrong with that.So when we die, if that is it, why is that something to fear? Death is the end of fear. I'm still trying to understand how does the existence of a god gives any meaning to life. It is man that gives himself meaning by creating a system of beleif.
