Wishing all a wonderful Sunday, wherever that may be. My head is momentarily out of the clouds as I prepare for a day in the real world.

    Hope I can handle it!

    Love,

I find my study of Tibet to be absolutely fascinating. Has anyone been there lately? I'd love to hear your story. I'm heading back shortly. Please stay in touch. You know where to reach me.

Today a former international student who had lived with us during '03 - '05 came to visit us, along with his entire family who flew in from Hong Kong. He just graduated from the Univ of WA yesterday (in the rain!!!), and they all drove here to meet us today. I spent the whole weekend cleaning and baking things, and I was able to offer a bit of a spread, with homemade fruit tart (homegrown strawberries), banana bread, biscotti, freshly roasted coffee, and some fruit. His family were really kind people, very enjoyable.

Later this evening I was chatting with our current international student, who is from Korea. His father's best friend's family live in another city, and the parents are becoming jealous of our relationship with him. On vacations and weekends, they don't want him to stay here but to be with them. He is having a hard time fending them off; he wants to speak more English so that he can improve faster.

He told me that he is also getting pressure from them to marry their daughter. (She is a very wonderful gal, actually, and I'm quite impressed by her.) He says that though she is a very good person, he does not want to marry anyone, period. ...After a long pause, he then tells me that he had a girlfriend when he was 22, but she suffered from a congenital blood disease, and died by the time he was 24. (He is now 27.) ... His folks never knew he had this girlfriend, nor that she died! Good heavens...!

Now I must attend to getting my take-home final exam finished so that it can be turned in tomorrow night. (I think I've got the grade nailed for the quarter. )

It's monday & a public holiday so no work today, sitting in my backyard with a coffee and my notebook (love wireless networks) catching up on my web surfing while watching the dog play with her tennis ball. Not going to work tomorrow, arranging with my old boss to go back there instead. Old job was bad enough but not near as bad as my current one. Will grin and bear old job while I attend a few night courses at the local uni, upgrading my skills and move onto a better job from there. At least my former boss treats his staff well, that's the main reason why I'm going back.

    Good morning

I enjoyed reading your exploits of the far east CoCo! Alas I'm not well-travelled - mostly parts of northern Europe and I have visited Israel once.

I'm once again at work on my day off but enjoying the slower pace and no disturbances apart from Pubsinger who minds the shop on my days off! I spent a lot of the weekend playing dominoes on Pogo - only against the computer though, I daren't take on a live opponent yet... maybe soon. I love to play games - it is relaxing exercise for my brain!

I'd better do some of my work now since I'm here! Have a blessed day all.

    Greetings!

    Bebu:

What a delighful gathering it must have been! I love biscotti and banana bread and would've dropped by your dwelling in Pakistan as I was sojourning in Tibet over the weekend. Other concerns kept me away [obstinate trail guides].
Sorry about the bad feelings of the friend's family; what you've described is not uncommon, sad to say.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

    Brinjen:

A family member had difficulty with her boss and requested a transfer. The new situation was worse. I'm glad you're making the best of a difficult situation. The lesser of two evils, eh?
I'm looking forward to working out-of-doors with the laptop I'm getting any day now. I'll have to plug in to the dial-up as I don't have wireless.
Hope you enjoy the day off with your ball-chasing pooch.
I'm glad to hear from you again.

    Sad emo:

The Himalayas are breathtaking - of course, at that altitude! "La," as in Shangri La, means "pass." Heading back later today, in between errands and work.
Will you ever have a live opponent for your games? Daunted? I don't know a thing about games, but I realize how fascinating they can be, given the time friends and family spend at them.
I hope you continue to benefit from your time off - I love the English term "rest cure"!
Have a wonderful day and thanks....

    Blessings and joy to all!

    Good morning CoCo,

It's a new week, with a new outlook on life for me.

How was your potato salad? Mine was yummy, and my hosts liked it too. My potato salad is a bit different. I copied my Italian mother in laws recipe. She doesn't use mayo, but instead uses good home made wine vinegar and olive oil. I boil up the potatoes, lots of salt in the water to make sure they have nice flavour, drain and rinse. While they are still warm, I dress them with the vinegar and oil. I like to let this sit in the fridge overnite, so the potatoes soak up all the yummy flavours. The next morning I add diced tomatoes, celery, sweet onion slices, peppers (if you want) and flat leaf italian parsley. Add a touch more olive oil and vinegar, check the seasoning and put it back in the fridge to get happy, happy, happy.

    Mrs. Bee,

Thank you much for what looks to be a great recipe. As we, too, hail from the warmer, Mediterranean climes, I should find this concoction of your "suocera" to be a veritable gustatory delight, and then some! Actually, I use olive oil, vinegar AND mayo. I just can't have it slippery enough! Off to buy some Italian parsley [just learned this herb belongs to the carrot famiglia].

    Have a great day, BB!

    CoCo
