Elders ARE idiots!!

Frank and Undercover - It may well be then that the 'idiocy' that we see in the behaviour of elders is simply due to the idiocy of what is being asked of them. Following the chain of command therefore, the real cause of this is as so many others have said the top....the Governing Body.
The GB has no compassion, or real compassion for any of the flock. All that matters is that THEY are obeyed exclusively and without question, no matter how ridiculous their present doctrine. To question is to 'die'. No wonder elders behave so unlovingly.
Gill:
All of these comments above are valid including yours quoted here. I like the white collar comment too as it illustrates well what happens when a good ol boy gets promoted to the front office and then winds up back in the factory. Sure you can blame the guy for his actions, but he was just doing his job.
It is the same corporate structure that WT has created that puts people in a position to judge. Jesus said, "Judge not!"
At the same time, Paul foresaw that wolves would devour God's sheep. Whether we believe the bible or not, it is true what he said. Structure or not, these elders (and religious leaders thru the ages) are the ones with blood on their teeth and human flesh in their stomachs.
Rotten fruit indeed.

I remember my Uncle and Aunt out shepherding an Elderly JW woman who was agoraphobic. The local Age Concern charity wuold collect her once a week and take her to her counselling. They visited her and told her that if she didn't return to the meetings Jehovah would not save her at Armageddon. They complained that she then started weeping bitterly at what they said to her. They said they thought they have made her ashamed enough to force her to return to Jehovah. In the end she never went to another meeting again.
That's so sad.
I know a lot of 'nice' elders, but it doesn't stop any of them from running a JC. These guys are just a bunch of sad cases who want somebody to think they're important. In one of my early congregations the PO practically had his own little cult following, and still does.

I agree that "there are more idiots in the whole wide world than there are semi-cool people........." but what is emerging from this discussion is that many of the elders were semi-cool people before they became elders but have been collectively 'idiotisized' by the WTS and in this state are causing many tragedies and much suffering in the congregations. Over the years I've seen many unneccessary and preventable tragedies happen because of 'idiotisized' elders. The internet made me realise the scale of this situation on a worldwide scale among JWs.

thanks for your kind thoughts but I have to say I feel more liberated being able to talk about it and develop the conviction that the JW organisation will remain the way its is unless there is a huge change in leadership from the top. bernadette

I never really thought too much of them one way or the other. Some were pleasant and others were less so.
As far as being helpful, some were more helpful than others but their opinion was colored by what they thought of you personally. If they had any bias in them (sometimes because of listening to gossip) then what they said to you was tinged with hostility. I had somebody act this way towards me once, but it told me more about HIS problem than anything else.
All in all, they are just imperfect men in shoe leather.

When you deal with an oragnization that is designed to grant all power and privledge to the top of the pyramid, then those appointed often (but not completely) get drunk on their power and crave more. It took the Catholics over a full millenia to realize some of the problems inherent in that system, and the JW's have only had it for a handful of decades.

MT - apt description.
I think you may well only be able to find any real love at the very bottom of the organization.
The higher up, the colder it gets!
Never a truer word spoken

Some elders end up here.
We tried to do what was right with the information we had.
I did more good than harm as an elder. I was called by some "the voice of reason" on the body. I sometimes regret leaving as soon as I did. I just couldn't do it any more. I admire those on JWD that remain as elders for the sake of family and to help as many as possible.
Many more will join us before it's all over.
I hope you are right...if there are elders in owe congregation that are free thinkers and want to follow Christ's love, how can I be sure who they are, I know one elder in my congo that is just so different from the others, he seems so balanced calm, caring and warm. How do I know which ones know that the org has become corrupted and they are there just to help us, I have to watch what I say.
