If people saying that they observe beauty in or are moved by nature is "patting their own imagination on the back for hallucinating a pattern for them " then I'm guilty as charged.

You fascinate me. I really don't get why you're so hostile towards warmth and feeling. But, I'm sure you have your reasons.

A silly summary of my position!

When your 1st grade teacher corrects your spelling is she a cold bitch intent on stifling your beatifully innocent creativity? Only if you are a sociopathic child!

I'm not anybody's guru or teacher. But, really now....

Beauty is a subjective reaction to stimulus which isn't fully comprehensible. There is no NEED to comprehend what makes an orgasm feel wonderful---but, if we wallow in it we all turn into drooling wankers!

Spiritual people slip into wanking a bit too often for my tastes. I find it in rather poor taste and have said so.

What's wrong with being a drooling wanker?

    Whoa nellie!!

Please don't let this thread go down the path of "drooling wankerism". Anything but that! We were approaching some sort of cosmic, intellectual, pinnacle of thought (at least for me anyway) and then along comes "drooling wankerism" along with what might be precursors of "ad hominum" attacks. I implore you to think of starving children or Roseanne Barr in a bikini or the ravages of war. Something. Anything. Whatever it takes to maintain concentration and not "release" yourself into drooling wankerism. (I love that phrase. Perhaps I can start a new religion. )

I've got a couple more questions to throw in the mix here in a minute.

(of the, drooling wanker most of the time, class)

Then why oh why oh why is the admiration and the appreciation given a folder tag with the word SPIRIT connected to it? (SPIRITuality)

Excellent point Terry. I think we've come right back to the importance of defining terms and being precise in how we communicate. ( I've been malingering over on your "bad spelling" thread instead of staying here learning how to think. )

Beauty is a subjective reaction to stimulus which isn't fully comprehensible.

Will it ever be comprehensible? Would that be desirable? In your view, if humans were to discipline themselves enough to live more rational lives, would humanity eventually get to the point where we could logically explain why an orgasm feels good? Or why you like a certain piece of piano music? I know from responses you've given on other threads that you have some sort of affinity for beauty. But I'm not seeing it on this thread.

Bottom line: Do you "get off" on rainbows, music or orgasms like the rest of us? I'm sure you do. You're just saying don't call it "spirituality". Is that an accurate assessment of your viewpoint?

I have (at least) one more question, but I'm not sure I'll have time to formulate it well today. ( And that's something I'm working on. )

Thanks for spending time here today Terry, James and everyone else.

Terry get a clue (you are so oriented).

Thank you, RAF!! That means my compass works!!

Why do you prefer one that spins?

... Interesting ... Isn't that a "spin" to get out of topic? ... but it's ok your right after all ...

    I'm a drooling wanker, yes.

I was an artist for many years.

I am a composer who loves wonderful melody.

I've spent most of my life collecting music and art.

    I love poetry and esthetics.

    I'm a besotted romantic.

    I cry in movies.

Without laughter and beauty I'd rather be compost.

But, dammit; I want to know what I know and not merely think I know or not care to know.
