Is JWD a healthy place to be for those who have left the Watchtower?

I guess in short; the social dynamic is to me much larger than it appears on the surface. And though it could be considered a 'waste of time', what other activities in life could not be labeled the same, depending on one's persective?

Right. I used to post on a pregnancy board nonstop, where we spoke about everything under the sun. Same goes for other 'common interest' internet sites.

It's a waste of time if you consider interaction with certain people to be just that. Does it really matter that there is a common background we share that is a former/current religion? Or do the people here come first now?

if your friend is concerned about whether he is moving on sufficiently, he has to work on that. We aren't all here just to reminisce about our hard times in the org. I like the interaction, the interesting things people say, the personal stories. It's more interesting than television, which would be a bigger waste of time than this forum! We all get to waste our time in ways that make us feel happy and relaxed.

    We'll All Be Dead Someday

Like Hortensia said, we can waste our time how we want to with whomever we want to.

What brought us together is not what we share now. But it is part of it for sure.

If a few thousand of us all hailed from Nigeria or Bangladesh, we would likely continue to mention the background we share. If that background is littered with minefields of the past - that would be discussed too. But the main thing would be the friendships and current interest that we share.

    Amen, Jeff!

I've met so many great people here, including you.

Met quite a few in real life. Hope to meet you as well.

Those who haven't been there simply don't get us.

    Dear AK Jeff,

In addition to your comments, I would add that the whole reason I stay on this forum is to help others, like I was helped when researching, and needing confirmation I wasn't crazy, for feeling lied to and betrayed.

    Sincerely,

    Lady Liberty

Since leaving the WTS, I have failed to make any real friends. Loads of acquaintances (mostly ex-workmates), but no close friends. I still have my family but I have a need to interact with others as well.

Therefore, you out there are MY FRIENDS. For me, time on JWD is time spent with friends.

Jeff, you told him why some remain here and others fade away. That seems to cover it.
I lean toward fading away from JWD as well as JW's after a few years or less. Those that
have family or friends, especially spouses and children, remaining in the Borg might need
longer, or those that are scarred by something. Good answer.
