Hi Sylvia:
David Phelps performed at our church once and he sang this song. It gives me goosebumps. This is for you.

I appreciate that, GWQ.
There are so many ways of expressing reverence for our Creator.
Don't you just cherish our new-found freedom?

Everyone has different ways of worshipping and as long as it comes from the heart I doubt that God objects to certain music. The Jews were very exhuberant with their worship singing and dancing. I love the old hymns but I also love the contemporary gospel. I think each generation speaks to their generation. I grew up listening to rock music. I have no problem with younger people (such as my daughter) listening to this kind of music. It speaks to them unlike the old hymns.
Don't you just cherish our new-found freedom?
I've never been a witness (just my parents) but we're all in bondage whether we admit it or not, either through substance abuse, money, anger, greed, depression, hopelessness etc etc. I believe the only way toward freedom is through Jesus.
From the Delirious song Our God Reigns: The only freedom we have is in a man nailed to a tree.
I don't know if this is the right version of Near the Cross you mentioned:

I was only going to stay long enough to have my lunch. Have a great weekend.

Oh yeah, baby. I remember them at the Harlem Fest in 1969.
It was #1 on the Gospel and Pop charts for a while.

I'm not a religious person anymore, but since leaving the Witnesses I've discovered polyphonic chant. Beautiful music.

Sad emo: thanks for the Delirious links. I hope to see them next fall in Houston Texas. My brother lives near by. I've never heard of Chris Cook but enjoyed it.
SuperficialLoon: I enjoyed that. Have you ever heard Liberia. I listened to Sibelius growing up so was familiar with the music before I even heard this version.

A few days ago I listened to this piece on a classical station. I was so moved by it, very Jewish and melancholy. I don't remember hearing it before as I have stayed clear of the movie Schindlers List, not sure if I could handle it. So I looked up some messianic music and found these. Hope you enjoy them.
