NVRGNBK, I don't know how many can really articulate such a personal experience. If people kind of feel it, they may not be able to help us. I would love to feel some kindred oneness with "da baba Jesus!" but I think at this point I would need"

    1. To walk on water like Peter and hold Jesus hand. (that would probably do it).

    2. See the holes in his hands/feet/side and stick my finger in them like Thomas.

    3. See Jesus seated at Gods right hand in heaven like Stephen.

Any one of these might do it, but all three would be great.

    tough cookie now....oompa

Music Is My Savior... I Was Saved by Rock and Roll...

by dennis [3:48 PM November 25, 2005] - 1 reply This is a great quote from an interview with Jeff Tweedy, which i stole from Mark Lee. I liked it so much, i had to post it over here too.

"I think one of the things that's really beautiful about rock music is that it's one of the rare places that people go in their lives where they join together with a bunch of people and raise their voices and sing along with somebody and transcend themselves, to find themselves as a part of humanity as opposed to being apart from humanity. I think that that's a beautiful thing ... Unfortunately there's been a lot of times where I think a lot of people have missed that experience in church and they found it in other places without knowing that's what they were finding."

The quote is taken from a review of a show Tweedy played at Messiah College, which is a Christian University in Philadelphia. Seem like a bit of a strange venue for him to play? He thinks so too:

"Actually, I'm honored that you would invite me to your campus. I think a lot of Christians would consider me a blasphemer," Tweedy said before deadpanning, "I have a checkered past."

Kudos to Mr Wilco for having a sense of humour about it, and kudos to Messiah College for letting a real, bona fide rock star play on campus.

You can read the rest of the review here. OMG! I was actually at this concert! It was surreal. Here are the lyrics from Sunken Treasure There's rows and rows of house, with windows painted blue.
With the light from the t.v. running parallel to you.
But there is no sunken treasure, rumored to be.
Wrapped inside my ribs in a sea black with ink.
I am so out of tune with you, I am so our of tune with you.
If I had a mountain, I'd try to fold it over.
If I had a boat (or bone), you know I'd probably roll over.
And I leave it on the shore, I'd leave it for somebody.
Surely there's somebody who needs it more than me.
I am so out of tune with you, I am so our of tune with you.
All the leaves will burn and autumn fires then return.
All the fires we burn, all will return.
Music is my savior, and I was maimed by rock and roll.
I was maimed by rock and roll.
I was tamed by rock and roll.
I got my name from rock and roll. Maybe these Christians get it? In fact, one young Christian threw her brasierre at the artist. He asked the drummer, "Hey, isn't this a Christian college?" LOL!

    Happy to reply, ninja.

I was born and raised in the JW cult.

    4th generation.

    Jehovah=Watchtower

    Jesus=Watchtower

    That simple.

Upon rejecting the Watchtower, I needed to be exposed to a new version of Jehovah and Jesus.

I have done so, and I have sincerely found any arguments for their existence and worthiness to be worshipped to be lacking.

    Hence, this thread.

I respect your faith, ninja. But I hear the same from you that I hear from many other Christians.'It's just something I have. You wouldn't understand.'

I need a little more than that.

I don't think the God that created logic and reason would expect any less from us.

    I see your point, Clam.

    Nevermind, Christians.

Thanks for all the outpouring of love though.

    It's been overwhelming.

Salvation is something that humans have made up to come to grips with imperfection and mortality!

IF there is a God it is bigger then any book, box or concept mankind can put it in!

Here is my own brand of "Christianity" (as well you know)...

I reckon that it has been "dogma'd" out of all proportion...

I believe that it basically boils down to something like this...

If you look around the world and see events that "tug" at something inside you, events that make you "sigh" inside.
Then you have just felt your conenction to God.

Should have written more - but I have company at the moment.

    nvr,

If you really want (more) replies, I'd suggest you don't make your question sound like a challenge, and keep it to something like "Is this life all there is?"

(Disclaimer: remember this piece of advice comes from a poster who starts very few threads and usually gets even fewer responses... )
