Nvr, interesting read, indeed! Has anyone read Jehovah Unmasked by Nathaniel J. Merritt? That book has many of the same points regarding God and His personality. It blew me away!
Does God love you?

It's on my list, Tara.
Thanks for the reminder.
I guess it's basically an exploration of Gnosticism.

Nvr,
Yes, but what it says about Jehovah makes complete and utter sense to me. IMHO, it is the only thing that makes sense of the difference between the God of the OT and Jesus's God. I refuse to worship Jehovah. -

I agree with Eclipse - he is a paradox.
As is clear from my posts, I am a Christian, but I guess that I understand God in a different way to the typical "old man on a throne" image.
We are told that we were made in his image - to me that means the capacity to know Dark and Light.
To further Eclipse's phrase... he is a paradox ...
He is the dark and he is the light,
He is the loud and he is the quiet,
He is the near and he is the far,
He is the now and he is the then,
He is the yin and he is the yang.Yet he is static,
He is the unmoved mover,
He is "THE ALL",
He IS.We have the capacity to be all of those contrasting things,
WE are the expressions of him,
Infact we ARE him expressing.Okay... it seems that I am getting weirder now... I'd better stop

That makes alot of sense, AO.
I guess I have a hard time accepting that god can be a paradox.
It seems conflicting and two-faced.
I am only human, so I guess I will never understand what god is, unless god is simply a larger, more powerful version, of us.
Which would seem so utterly dissapointing...just my opinion though!
I thought god would have better qualities than us lowly humans.
I guess I am wrong, which is not surprising. I am wrong many times.

You are soooo not the typical Christian, AO!
LMAO!
And I love you for it.

My parents were a lot like that.
One minute they were showering me with praise.
The next minute I was being disciplined. What kind of parents would take away my treasured possessions?! All just for stuffing paper inside of the heater. What kind of parents were they?
Amos 1: 13 This is what the LORD says:
"For three sins of Ammon,
even for four, I will not turn back {my wrath}.
Because he ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead
in order to extend his bordersAmos 2: 6 This is what the LORD says:
"For three sins of Israel,
even for four, I will not turn back {my wrath}.
They sell the righteous for silver,
and the needy for a pair of sandals.7 They trample on the heads of the poor
as upon the dust of the ground
and deny justice to the oppressed.
Father and son use the same girl
and so profane my holy name. -

So let me get this straight...
God is loving but is allowed to be angry and murderous and we are to just accept these qualities and call god perfect?
Renee, my JW sister uses that same above illustration with me, and I've always asked her,
''DO YOU KILL YOUR CHILD WHEN THEY ARE BAD??''
Only if you want to go to jail for life, or be killed yourself with the death penalty.
So is it wrong that I expect more from a god parent than from a human parent?
Maybe I am asking too much!
Maybe god is a heartless murdering war-lord, with love and forgiveness when HE feels like being that way.
No wonder people are crazy.
Children go crazy when they have inconsistent and abusive parents too,
parents who are sometimes loving whenever they feel like being loving,

I'm glad he hasn't been a total bastard to you , sad emo
god has been an absentee god to me.
(((eclipse))) sorry, I was harsh there. Yes I do understand that paradox and struggle with it myself sometimes. And He's been incredibly absent to me at times too - when I look back on those times, they were when I did some of my greatest learning (even though it was crappy).
Some compare this paradox with fledgling eagles - to teach them to fly, the parent apparently shoves them out of the nest - a murderous act at the first glance, but if this didn't happen, the young eagle would never learn to fly, to be free, to feed itself - to live. Whilst the young one learns to fly, the parent is close by, ready to catch it if it gets into serious danger - maybe the learner is so busy trying to fly that it misses the presence of the parent - and yet if it looked at the parent it might see that all the flapping isn't neccessary - all it needs to do is spread it's wings and allow itself to be carried on the thermals.
Just to BE rather than to DO...
The whole of life is a paradox to me, regardless of the existence of God or not. The universe is something and nothing at the same time.
We breathe in, we breathe out. We laugh, we cry. We love, we hate. We live, we die.
Man, I've gone all deep now

That was beautiful, sad emo
Yes, those opposites are what I see and feel everywhere,
it is like it is all around me everywhere I go
the ying and the yang...
I just need to be still...and just breathe or else feel like I will drown
