Minimus - Are you sure you aren't from Delaware, Ohio?

I would watch the brother that acted like Mini and crack up. I was bothered by a particularly arrogant brother that repeatedly went over for 20 minutes or more and wanted to knock him off the stage myself. It was bad enough to have to listen to him during his allotted time.

A few times I complained that "we" were being presumptous to think we could just have 2 and a half hour meetings because we had an important local issue. The PO compromised by announcing that any that wanted to leave because of family or other responsibilities could but that they were going to continue until they were done with the subject.....I'd leave.

One time (in band camp ) the domino effect of the previous windbags put me on the stage for the last part at 9:03. My part was supposed to be 20 minutes of Q&A. No paragraph reading. A hand full of comments and quick summation by me and I started the song at 9:08. Much to the consternation of the resident windbags.

    A shining moment.

I used to get very angry at how inconsiderate they were.

And by 1983, I just quit going to meetings.

We left because we had a non-jw father waiting at home for us...he didn't accept that the meeting went overtime. We only had one car and he didn't want to be without wheels any longer than necessary.

One CO went over time for all 3 meetings, 15 minutes and the BOE were too frightened to say anything. He axed 15 elders by the time his 3 years were up.

I felt so sorry for children when this happened so often.

You have 5 and 6 year olds sitting there after 9:00pm struggling to stay awake when they should be at home in bed. It's no wonder that many parents with children left right after the Theocratic Ministry School and skipped the Service meeting altogether.

Except for Blondie and others who had unbelievers waiting, what's wrong with you guys?
These spiritual meetings were supposed to be uplifting and good for you.
Why didn't you just bask in the bonus information being delivered to you?

Wasn't it special that the speaker or WT conductor had more for you than was demanded?

Especially if it was the Circuit Overseer, the overtime should have been pleasant and
    enjoyed by all.

No, I can't write that. If I was the chairman when a Sunday speaker was overtime, I would
stand up in the isle even with the last row of chairs, letting him know time was up.
If it were other meetings or I wasn't the chairman, I would suffer with everyone else, but
mentally shut down, often closing my Bible or WT and putting all books away.
