Justita said: He was in intensive care, and a member of the HLC stopped buy. He asked if there was anything he could do. She said yes, pray with me. HE REFUSED!!!!! There was a Catholic priest in the same area, and he said he didn't want to pray in front of the Catholic priest. So, he left...he just left her there. My friend's son was ruled brain dead shortly thereafter; he was removed from life support later that evening. At least she had sisters with her during her time of need

That is disgusting.....yet oh so common in Dubdumb Land. When my father had his stroke early last year, I think he got one visit from the PO when he was in the hospital for over a month. The guy in the room with him was a Catholic and his priest was by 3 - 4 times a week to see him. This upset dad greatly----the idea that a member of "Babylon the Great" was getting more care and concern from his demonized priest, than what he was getting from God's Chosen Ones at the Kingdumb Hell.

Elders counting time for acts of human kindness:

    Don't ask. Don't tell.

That's how it's done around my neck of the woods and probably other places as well.

It's just an example of people being good and human (except for the cold people in the car) IN SPITE OF the corporate rules & regulations. Of course, since it's not really allowed, the elders can't come out and say it's OK publicly. The pioneers around here do the same thing I think. Most of them (except for a couple hard-core "do it by the book" types) don't seem to mind at all if we drop by and visit with Sister Shut-In for half an hour. I'm SURE they're counting time.

Hey, any time I can do a genuine kindness instead of banging on doors, I'm game. FWIW, last month I only talked to ONE person door-to-door and had a pretty good anti-Witness, anti-Religion, pro-humanity discussion. And I don't place litterature anymore. It's too precious you know.

I'm in 100 percent agreement Open Mind. You will never hear me complaining about it while out in 'service'. How warped does ones spiritual compass need to be to claim that encouraging depressed souls is NOT an act of worship/service?

    On-the-Way-Out,

I know what you mean about elders going on 'comfort' calls usually with somebody they like rather than work out in service with the bros/sis.

Of course, I made this term up but it indicates they have a pre-arrangement with somebody they like. This way they are not really exerting themselves but just putting in time.

    This is typical.

the PO visiting with my father. He looked at me and forced himself to say 'hi', so I made sure I rolled my eyes as I returned the greeting and turned my back on him. (this is the same dirty old bastard that had the hots for me when I was 17 and he was in his late 40s )

Mary! Please! You are obviously imputing wrong motive to this fine, upstanding individual. No doubt he simply wished to take the lead in helping you improve spiritually -- much like the fine, upstanding Elder from a nearby congregation who is now serving five years in gaol for "assisting" an underage "Sister". (Well, the Court called it "statutory rape." You know: Satan controls the Courts, too. )

When I had my first major surgery, nobody around here would touch the no-blood business, so I had to search for a surgeon that would "take" JWs. I found one up by the Canadian border and hubby brought me up there and had to return to care for our five kids. I was in a room where a Catholic woman had the same frequent visits by her priest and I had NO ONE because I didn't know anybody from that area at all.

I had asked the nurse to see if she could call a Kingdom Hall on the off-chance I could get a visit from anyone after the Book study....(I was scared and lonely) and she called. One elder and his wife stopped by the next evening but that was all. The priest ended up feeling sorry for me and asked if he could ask a quick blessing for me, and he made the sign of the cross and said a couple of words....which was a couple MORE than the elder said "for" me !

I am pleased to hear your Dad is feeling better, and your posts have made me smile! I could just picture the whole thing so easily, tea cups perched on their knees, munching on YOUR cookies, and nodding and talking excitedly about ALL that same old-same old "encouraging and upbuilding" nonsense that they have been clinging to for DECADES! (Lookit lookit---pull the string and the JW spouts the appropriate WTS nonsense!)

    Take care...

    hugs,

    Annie
