    Yeah, I hear you!

I keep saying the same thing and then I get lonely and go back on JWD. As if arguing with strangers in cyber space can substitute for a real life. Family and friends is where its at. If you got a good one, spend more time with them for sure. Although, I have met a few people from here in "real" time too, so if you make a couple of real life freinds from this place it is worth it. Can't have too many of those either.

    Peace out!

Vinny, people on here have gotten so close that they got married! Literally! All is not lost, there are people on both sides of the discussion. Remember that!

disagreeing isn't the same as negativity. And sometimes people get frustrated with someone who just keeps repeating the same old stuff without hearing the other person and responding - lots of people responded very carefully to Blackboos questions, he/she/it just keeps spouting the same stuff without moving forward in the conversation. Also, free speech means sometimes you have to listen to stuff you don't want to hear, to honor the other guy's right to free speech. I think this forum is great - because there are so many people with different ideas, and different styles, it can get pretty lively around here. Sort of like real people, eh?

BlackBoo did a great job of proving why the Bible must be written by men and not god.

Nothing to worry or fight about.

If god is really omnipotent and all-powerful, do you think he/it really cares who believes in him/it or not?

We're just puny, insignifigant human beings with short life spans -

what does it matter to an all powerful being what we think and what we believe???

We have made god way too smal, and much too human.

Isn't god is much bigger than any of us perceives?

Only imperfect humans want to be worshipped and adored.

Wouldn't an all-powerful god be so much more above that insigifigant notion of worship?

    I didn't read this whole thread... Maybe I didn't miss much. :)

I have a question for Cog. I am currently using Firefox and I don't see how to quote like I can in other boards.

"That's a really good suggestion. Blackboo, if every single time you have a thought about God or religion, you ask yourself "how do I know that" and "where did I first learn that" you will soon quickly realize that every single idea about God you have was taught to you by someone else. And everything they have told you was taught to them by someone else. Every single verse in the Bible that you believe is because someone else claims to have seen or experienced those events and told you the story of them. None of those things have you actually "experienced" for yourself.

That is the exact process by which I became an atheist, although it was unintended. I was first encouraged to use this type of questioning in science classes and nursing practice classes. Every single time I planned to take an action with a patient, I had to justify in my own mind, why I was taking this action. If it was based upon information from others, how did I know the information was accurate? How did I know whether it was from a credible source or not? What makes a source credible? Trustworthy? First I applied this type of questioning to the WTBTS and then to the Bible and then to my belief in God. I was an atheist in about two weeks time.

If you were to dismiss EVERYTHING that everyone ever told you and rely on ONLY what you have sensed and experienced in your own mind, you would not be able to reconcile a belief in God to your present and past experience. Try it. It is a mindbender for sure.

I think marmot has a good point. If I remember correctly, that verse that you quote about a fool is actually saying those who don't believe in Yahweh are fools. The translators of the bible obviously accepted that this god was the only god so that's probably why they did not bother to mention is name.

I believe before we accept the views of an ancient civilisation on god we should examine some of the evidence. I for one have and I came to the conclusion that this god is the the loving and forgiving god that a lot of people think he is. I mean a god that kills children and women but saves the virgins for the conqueror and allows a father to sell his daughter but in the same time kills a man that gathers fire wood on a sabbath day does not sound like love or justice to me.

Don't you think that maybe god, if he exist, is a little more complex then what an ancient civilization might think of him?

The bible in my opinion is only the work of men who were trying to explain the world around them.
