I don't think there is anything wrong with choosing a church that you feel comfortable with ( cults not included). I have tried going to a church and it was a pleasant enough experience and there was no pressure in any way, the emphasis being on having a personal relationship with God. I don't know if I will ever feel the need to commit to a particular church but that is just me at this time. I don't believe that any church has the "Truth" in the way that cults like the JW's do. We all have our own journey and have to do what feels right for us so I wish you every happiness and peace of mind in yours.

Look, I STILL THINK ALL RELIGIONS are designed to control the masses - they all work to one degree or another through mind control and fear. BUT, I do agree that some are far more destructive than others - with the JW's right up there with the moonies and the Jim Jones Kool-aid drinkers.

But, I don't know how anyone could have their eyes wide open and REJOIN the JWs.... sorry, those 2 things DO NOT COMPUTE!!!! Eyes wide open + JW = No way

imho, if a person decides to join a particular church, it only matters if they are doing it with eyes wide open.

The Protestant Christian churches that I know of, all seem to share the same basic beliefs, none too drastic or different from one another, from what I have seen. I don't feel that any f them has "THE absolute truth" either, but they do have a love for the Lord and for each other that helps with the "gathering together" to love and fine works that the bible teaches us to do.

It is when they stand up in front of you and demand that you MUST do this or that....and supply twisted scriptures to support their demands....is where I draw the line and leave.

Anyway to get even more technical, government itself is just another way designed to control the masses too.

The preacher at my last church service, said very loudly "ours is not the true church, there is no true church, FreeWill Baptists arent the only ones to go to heaven, it isnt a FreeWill Baptist thing, it is a Jesus thing" Well he didnt say it in exactly those words but the message was clear, there is no absolute truth, outside of Jesus Christ himself. This is how I believe, and that is why I enjoy attending my church whenever I get the opportunity to go back home.

Yes, of course governments are the same - and the Catholic church runs a lot of government policies in many countries and the US is governed by the bible belt and the list goes on, take Iran for example - absolutely, THEY WORK HAND IN HAND. WHY? TO CONTROL THE MASSES into submission and to line the pockets of the TOP.

Of course, you are correct in that assessment. Perhaps I should have been more clear in my "tongue-in-cheek" speculation about such a possibility.

I actually agree with Gringa, and believe me, I'm not trying to start a fight... as a matter of fact, GB is one of my favorites. Bit I really can't see how God would chose someone and leave others out.. I think religions are like football teams, we chose them and then we pull for them, we defend them against all others.

But sometimes they just simply stink. The Jws are the worst team with all others following close behind.
