This is my conundrum:
I say no -> My family is unhappy -> BAD
I say yes -> My family is happy -> I blow my cover -> My family is unhappy -> BAD
I say yes -> My family is happy -> I blow my cover -> My family realizes everything is a lie -> GOOD
I say yes -> My family is happy -> I keep quiet -> I try to help -> GOOD & BAD
As you can see, the problem is choice.
Here's how you might play it out...
Choice 1: If you say no, you can give the BoE a bull**** excuse like masturbating or smoking or somesuch other excuse to get out of it. That meeting will feel like hell, but it will get you out. Also, missing turning in your time or lowering your hours will get you off the hook.
Choice 2: This is what will happen if you say yes and blow your cover. Choice 3 is, in all seriousness, an impossibility UNLESS--and this a very big unless--they've exhibited freethinking patterns of behavior before. If not, then no, choice 2 will be the outcome for outing yourself. And, it will make them very upset as you've "lied to the Brooklyn rubberstamp Holy Spirit."
Choice 4: You'll keep things at an even keel, but for how long? And at what cost to yourself? In fact, I take back my earlier comments about being vindictive and getting the inside scoop. Revenge is fun for a short while, but the damage to yourself will last some time. You'll be notching yourself even higher in the publishing company. Do you really want to do that?
Screw leaving ambiguous advice. Don't take the job, outofthebox!
